Title: 10 bolt or 12 bolt??
Post by: Zukipilot on July 04, 2003, 02:18:44 AM
What year the the Kick/Tracker switch to the 12 bolt rear carrier? I found a couple of low mileage Kicks (96,97) in a local yard that are going to be scraped, and they will sale the carriers cheap.

I think it was '90. For sure 96 and 97 will have 12 bolt carriers...

According to Calmini's website for there LSD it is 94-98 for the 12 bolt and 89-93 for the 10 bolt. Speaking of are the axles the same length, could I swap out just the pig and the axles or would I have to swap out the whole rear end.

You wouldn't need to swap out the axles. All Sidekick rears are 26 spline. Some of the later model ones, especially 4 door models, are a little bigger in the middle and the 97,98 models have a 5 bolt [instead of 4] outer flange but they are all widdled down to a 26 spline.

So, find a 12 bolt carrier and put it in! :)

In the rear, Sidekicks have always been 26 spline. The fronts have been upgraded from 22 to 26 over the years.

Our 95, 4dr is a 12 bolt, 26 spline unit.

(had it under close inspection when putting in the 5.12s the other day)

You may find the rear axles are longer too. Over here in New Zealand we get "wide body" Escudo's ( Kicks ). The rear axle assembly is 40mm wider to match the 40mm wider body set up. Just do a measure up against your diff housing and all will be revealed. The later model flanges are part of the axle and five bolt ( your wheel bolts directly to the axle and not the brake drum ). The earlier axles are four bolt and you bolt your wheels to the drum assembly on these ( five bolts on the drum ). All rear ends are 26 spline - 410/413/sammy/kick's.
