Title: How many spline?
Post by: wolf66 on May 02, 2005, 05:06:03 AM
I am getting ready to re-gear to 5.12's from 4.62's in my 1996 X90..............I thought the fronts were 26 spline for some reason, the guy who wants to sell em to me says:

"The front spline count of a 1996 model should be 22 spline and 1997 and later are 26 spline."

Does that sound right?  So the '96 X90 would have one size and the '97/'98 had another?

Anybody know for sure?

Only answer I have gotten so far was:

"Not necessarily.  The X-90s were all built in Kosai, Japan, not in North America, so they could have got the change earlier, or not at all."

AHHHHHHH!!!

Wolf,
They did change in the Tracker/Kicks around that time. I would suggest just pulling your passenger side 1/2 shaft and counting the splines. Then you will know for sure what you have.

I'm assuming from your wording that you are buying the complete 3rd members instead of a R&P set.

I have both F/R thirds from a 96 tracker lsi, 5 speed. I think they are 26 spline. My uncle tried using the CV's in his 91 and they didn't work. I'll double check my parts too. (which happen to be for sale.....) ;)

we put all the 26 spilne stuff in andrew's tracker and  put the front end parts next to each other and there was a slight difference in the size of the shaft,  just so everyone knows.

sure it is ... :) ... I wouldn;t wanna guess the diffs between a JA built x90 and a CA built anything ...

FYI, some 26 spline shafts are 1/4" shorter than others ... (probably 95 only or some such) ...

This applys to X90s too. Dans 96 X90 was 26spline.
