Title: ALIGNIGNMENT!!!
Post by: Lou2005 on April 17, 2005, 03:55:30 AM
Hi!  I went to SEARS for alignment because i previously purchased this 4x2 2001 Vitara 9 months ago and after I bought it I changed 4 brand new tires because of cupping with the old tires.  6 months after the purchase, i did an alignment and the the SEARS said that the manufacture does not specify rear Camber and TOE adjustments.  PLease help if you know the spec.
It is now 9 months and i can see that my front right wheel is cupping.  ANY helps would be really appreciated otherwise i have to sell this car. This car should not have any problem because it only has 57k mile and 2001.

are you rotating your tires every 6000-10000 kms? If so i go back to work tues and i'll check to see but there are some that can't be changed and others that say they can't but can so i will look into it for ya.

Rear suspension geometry can't be changed as its a live axle. At the front the toe in can be adjusted but camber can't, if you have a camber issue at the front with stock suspension then you should start looking for bent bits. You should also check that your front struts are in good order.

tire pressure?

that can have a HUGE effect on the wear. these rigs are so light, 20-25 lbs is generally the range for on road use (of course specific tires have specific needs).

I see people all the time read the tire and it says "35lbs max" so that's what they run ....

Also what's the quality of the tire?  I bought a really cheep set once because that's all I could afford.  They cupped really bad.

A year/year and a half later I put better grade tires on and the problem went away.

quality of tires?  $400 for four Dunlop tires.  I'll tell SEARS to do an alignmnet one more time and also rotate my tires.  I dont know about tire pressure.  If it doesnt work, i gotta let the mechanic give me a quote to fix it.  thanks all

You can't adjust Toe or Camber on any solid rear axle that I know of.  (?make the tire tip outward or inward?)

Only with a bent axle housing I guess.

On the front...
Or should I say on housings with steering knuckles.
But these aren't usually found on the rears, without custom application, like all wheel steering.
