Picked up a used GRS II tcase. It's leaking along the gasket where the case halves mate up. It looks like the gasket got screwed up in one spot when it was installed.
The question, Black RTV now, or wait for a gasket to ship and lose a weekend of 4.89 to 1 wheeling?
-
I hate to say it. But, I would wait. :P

If you're up and running without that case and are just adding it for the lower gears, I would wait for the gasket. Now if you're tore apart and waiting without any ride at all, I would RTV it, but only after realizing that I would be pulling the case again once the gasket arrives... Basically by using the RTV, you're installing the case twice...

Ultra Gray Silicone will be a permanent
fix, keep the gasket in a safe place for
next time you need it

I haven't got an FSM to hand. Would leaving out the gasket mess up any of the clearances?

Yup, make sure the mating surface is good and clean, free of grease, etc.

the thickness of the gasket makes up the tolerences for the thrusts.you need a gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The paper gaskets I pulled out of my Sammy T-case didn't seem that thick. I can't imagine that they provide that much additional thickness to allow for space next to the thurst washers.

Maybe this would be a good time to call Hawk, or TrailTough.
