I wanna lock the front end on my Tracker. I welded the rear, and have no beef with weling the front!!
Here's my thing, will I not be able to turn on pavement at ANY point in time, or just when the 4x4 is locked in? So, if I drive it too work, leave it in 2wd, hubs unlocked, it will turn just fine, right? And if my hubs are locked in, in 2wd hi, what then? 4wd, DUH, I won't be able to drive at all!
Comments?

Yep, unlock the hubs and it will be fine. Power steering will help alot when they're locked.

Don't weld the front, get an ARB
or a limited slip, Lockrights are OK,
but give some difficulty with turns
I'm waiting to get an ARB, best
front locker you can get for both
worlds

yeah get an arb. worth the extra,
If my arb is locked even with power steering my steering is limited i would hate it to be like that all the time as it woould only end up breaking something.
I tend to lock the hubs in the morning when playing then they aer locked all day .

I love my ARB and if money isn't a problem I think it's the best way to go but if $$$ are short and you don't mind it then a welded front is useable.

A locked front makes up for a lot when you have IFS.

Many of the buggies in my club have welded the front and do not like it. The ones without a twin stick drive around with only one hub locked (just so they can steer) then, get out, lock the other one in, do the obsticle, get out, unlock one hub, and then they are on their way. If they get in a tough situation during the obsticle they have little or no steering and frequently have to unlock a hub to steer, then lock it back in to try and finish the obsticle. Personally I would rather do without the extra traction that do shit like that on the trail. My 2cents, wait and get a real locker, detroit EZ locker, lockrite, ARB, whatever. It will be worth the wait.

Nearly launched our Kick to the moon with the front locked in going over Golden Crack in Moab due to our locker preventing me from steering correctly over the obsticle.
Good thing I can turn it off on demand.

Cool, thanks for the responses guys. I will NOT spend that kinda money for a front ARB!! I'm gonna do SAS some day, so I'll get a selectable locker then. Not before!
Guess I'll just stick with the shitty ass open front. :(

Chief, you could always do a detroit/lockrite up front, and when/if you decide to SAS, then just sell the third. I don;t think you'd lose too much in the resale.

i have used a welded front in my sj,dissconnected by free wheel hubs on road, with power steering.and its ok.
i now have a lockright in the front as well as the rear, and its great.pop it in 2 wd and it steers like an open diff.lockrights only lock when being driven,no drive,no lock.......
i love my lockrights.......................................
