I would like to see some pictures of 31" or larger preferred larger sized tires on Stock Sammy or 15x5.5 rims. I was told this could be done in another thread but no one ever posted any pictures.
I'm really interested in seeing how this looks and how well it clears the springs.
Thanks
Bash

I don't have a sammy, but I do have
a 33 12.5 15 Swamper on a stock 15"
SideKick rim, I don't think it will clear
the Sammy springs very well, I have
a sharply reduced turning radius with
it on in the front

215-75-15 Dayton Timberline AT's on stock silver steel Tracker rims don't clear the Tracker's frame up front when turning sharply...

I don't know if you consider this oversize, but I have 235/75/15s.

Ed do you know if those rims are 6 in wide or wider than that.?
Also I'm running 235/75/15 on my stock sammy rims and it looks like I have more bulge on the side wall than you do I'll post pics tonight.
-
I believe they are 8"in width and the tyres are 12.50 s so that'd explain your 235 s on a 6" rim bulge more, and also the fact that they are higher ;)

I just realized that I never posted my pictures to this thread.

I want to see pictures!!!

Sorry, Don't have any pics but...a friend of mine had 31's on stock sammi rims, but he flipped them around for xtra backspacing. He also had to trim some metal on the front bumper. He was running stock sammi springs with SPOA, extra leaf up front.  He exentually upgraded to a polished aluminum rim, 15x7.  I just bought a set of jeep cj wheels for my tracker, they're 15x7, I paid $50 for them, about 2 hours time to sand them down & $10 for tremclad white paint.

and if you run the rims backwards if gives you a ton of back spacing, this is a pic of em backwards on my LJ80 :(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v455/trev_guy/mini-ljphoto.jpg)

Wouldn't this cause problems with the air valve hitting your brakes?

I think they only hit if they're longer than normal valve stems. But, not really sure.
-
is that safe running your rims like? it looks intresting.

One of the few pics of my old tintop. 33x12.5 bfgs. Flipped stock samurai rims.

Hahahahah! I'm pretty sure we were talking about flipping just the rims around, not the rims and the entire truck :P

No pics on this (newish) computer, but I am on 32x11.50's on stock Zuk rims, NON flipped! Tires hit the springs |removethispart|@ full lock, and I had to cut the bumpstops off the rear frame before they took out my sidewalls, but thats it. Remind me and I will try to get the pics moved.

A stock samurai rim is 7" or at least the ones I've seen. If they are the flat centers then you can flip them to get the right offset. You can weld the valve stem hole and re-drill the other side.
If your tires are going to be 10.5 you can get away with them on stock's or 8's but they need to be flipped or with a little offset. If they are 12.5 then you should have the 10" rims with 2.5 offset. You need the offset to clear the springs and it makes an awefull sound when the lugs on the tires grabs the springs.
We flipped the rims on the LJ80 to make it wider and then I went to 8's with offset. IT all depends on if you want them not to rub at all....around here the cops will look and if they rub at all they pull you off the road. It's not hard to see slash marks on the tires and rub marks on the fenders.

yes it is safe to run the rims backward because the rims have a flat surface and the holes are tapered on both sides.

From what I have heard, no tall stock rims have flat centers, "Yes, the round hole rims (88.5-95) cannot run reversed. Only the "wagon wheels" (86-88)are capable of running reversed. "
Found a couple pics online,,,,

as I said, 32x11.5's on stock 15x5.5 rims, NOT flipped. Sky stage 2 SPOA, only other mods to clear the tires was the bumper ends. IIRC That IS as far as the tires turn, they should be clipping the springs in that pic. Not enough to really notice driving tho.
And a few more that are a bit more up to date,,, sorry, phone pics,

i wouldn't run stock sammy rims on the street backwards. because when you run them backwards they dont draw up tight to your rear drums when you tighten the lugs.. you will have a 1/4" gap between the rim and drums. been their done that.... off road would probably be fine!
-
Wow revival of a 5 year old thread now that's nuts.
-
it'll work alot better if you've got some offset on the rims. Otherwise you'll rub on the springs and if they are aggressive then it'll make some noise.

Or make for a good parking brake! (or break if you are moving) ;D
