During a wash today I noticed a spot of rust :o just above/behind one of the plastic rocker covers. Any tips on getting the covers off?

I wrecked mine when i took them off. Its incredible the dirt those things hold in there. I have no intention of ever puttng them back on.

I'm afraid of what's behind mine after wheelin' ;) I'm hoping to get them off without destruction. Any tips on how they are attached?

On my '96, They clip onto brackets at the top and are held by quick fasteners at the bottom..
There are a couple screws at the bottom front and rear caps that unscrew from the inside of the body flange. Once you get the end caps off, pry the centers out of the little rectangular plugs at the bottom of the long center cover. They act like the center plug of a pop rivet. Then you can pry the retainer out. Once you release the retainers at the bottom, they just lift off the bracket at the top.

Thanks :)

I did it the same way that Speedracer did... just ripped them off. Considering how rusty and brittle the hardware that held them on was, it wasn't a big feat ;D

Yeah them plastic covers are some of the best rust starters that ZUKI ever invented. :P M.Z.

To get em off easily ... lay under the rocker, and you'll see that a pin sticks throgh each of the "quick-fasterners". punch out that pin on all the fasteners, and remove a screw at the front a rear. The plastic covers will then lift and pivot off. Underneath will be some light sheet metal bracket held on with screws.

Thanks :)

just drive over a few jagged rocks and become friendly to tree's and you'l have no problem gettin em off ;D
