Title: Will not start
Post by: TOTAL_CARNAGE on April 12, 2005, 04:39:43 PM
I have a 93 Samurai. I have just finished installing a used engine. The engine is known to be in good shape. I installed a new timing belt, Put the marks on the crank and cam at TDC. I then put the distributer in at TDC. The cam and crank had marks to line to and the dist. cap has no.1 marked. I put the wires on  1,3,4,2. I put the coil wire near ground and turned the engine over to get oil through the engine and to test spark from the coil. Good spark. put the wire back in, checked for gas at the injector and tried to start............Got fuel......got spark.... don't got no running engine  :(
Any ideas??? Did I do something wrong with the timing??

I don't know if it would make a difference, but the plugs are different for each engine you started with. The older carb engine called for plug NGK BPR-5ES, the EFI engine calls for plugs NGK BKR-6E. If you didn't change the plugs, could that possibly hamper the starting? For gap, the book I have calls for 0.028 to 0.031...

You followed the marks for TDC. Did you confirm whether it's TDC on compression stroke or exhaust stroke? Maybe it is set TDC on exhaust stroke...

It's running now!... Dist. was 180 off, TDC was set to exhaust stroke.

By the way everyone, this is my old father/son project sammy that I gave up for BionicOnion's Tracker, and TOTAL_CARNAGE is the builder/fabricator that has helped me out with a lot of stuff for my Tracker... The sammy was a little beyond my basement garage's level of care, but it's got a great home now! I'll try to get some pics tonight when I go help work on it...
