Went out to play in the mud a couple of weeks ago and on the way home I heard a noise that sounded like grit or grinding, I thought it was the front wheel bearings but now I think it was dirt in the drum brakes. That sound has stopped but now a knocking noise has started when it is rolling, it is not the exhaust hitting anything, it does it on smooth or rough roads. I jacked up the rear end and put it in gear and just let the tires spin in the air to see if I could find the source, went through all of the gears and I don't hear it but when I let it down and drove it it makes the noise. Also it makes whether it is under power or coasting in gear or out of gear. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thanks

Maybe something with the suspension or shocks in the rear (dented a housing maybe). Just a first guess on first impression......

This was what I was thinking, maybe you dented a dustshield on the front calipers. Still might be a bearing though. Check your lug and axle bolts.

is the knock engine speed related or rolling speed related or just occasional?
