hi, i have a few questions(ok i have a lot :-) ) regarding the sj410 and the
samurai, here are the questionssss:
1.will the windshield of a sammy fit my sj?
2. since the orig sj410 have unboosted brakes and front drums, what do i
need to convert it into front disc? the booster needs a vacuum right? where
will i attach this vacuum(w/c part of the engine)
3. orig tranny of the 410 has 4 speed only, is there a 5 speed? or the sammy
tranny will fit?
4. does the sj410 and sammy have the same suspension components like leafs,
etc.
.....i know there's a lot of sites dedicated to suzuki's but i cant seem to
find one that directly answers my queries, thanks for your time...

from what ive heard is the only way to get a 5spd is to actually swap engines, and my 84 sj410 has front discsi never knew they came with front drums...., and i think you can bolt on the power brake booster, i have one in my garage that came from one and

If you don't get an answer here. Hawk Suzukiparts can probably answer your questions. Called them quite often when I had my SJ 410.
Don't know about earlier years but the 85 SJ 410 hardtop shared shared body parts with the 85 Samurai. Trim , grill, and I think hood differences.

Sammy windscreen should fit I believe the main body panels are all the same. The early 410 disc brakes had no booster so you should be able swap to discs without needing a servo master cylinder (which has a different hole pattern through the firewall). Most people in the UK simply swap in a later axle as its a lot easier than swapping parts.
Sammy gearbox will not fit, there are 410 5speed gearboxs which will mate up to the engine but the early 410s have the gear lever holes in slightly different
locations and a smaller transmission tunnel, it can be made to fit though. The input shaft varies too, there is a short shaft which mates to a flywheel with a bearing in the centre and an extended shaft which mates to a bearing in the end of the crankshaft. You may need to swap the flywheel, the extended input shaft can be cut down if required. Suspension (leaves/shocks) is the same as the SJ413 (narrow track) and is interchangeable with the Sammi

thanks for all the replies....
what if i use sammy axles for the front and back....what problems should i expect?
-
Sammi axles are located differently, IIRC the spring mounts are outside of the frame rails so you would either have to modify the frame or the axles. It would be best to fabricate new brackets for the frame as the axles would be better supported and less prone to bending. You will also need to swap around propshaft flanges if you have the earlier small diameter solid props.

I just fitted a 410 soft top winscreen onto my Sammy hardtop after cutting the roof and screen off. Fitted fine and lined up pretty good. The internal wiper drive arms are a different length.

Hmm, stock you say. Thats a bit tricky! Someone else might be able to help you with that one. Though I can have a look in the FSM to see if there are any usefull pics. Anything in particular you need?
