I have a line on a cheap 16V with a blown HG can get it with all wiring and comp. was wondering if its worth all the work for an extra 15HP? I guess I can get close with a cam and header on my 8V but I can also do those things to the 16V to gain even more power. HELP! ;D
-
NO, it's not, send it over here to me ! ;D

Hey, how cheap can you get it? Was kinda feeling around for one as a parts motor. I may be interested if the price is right. I am not to far from you, in the same province anyway.

Nearly a 20% power increase, I'd say its worth it. Try and ensure that it is just the headgasket though. Cracked heads and blocks are not uncommon on 16Vs that have been overheated.

it is really not worth all the rewiring and the time and troble u also need to check the price differences for 8 valve parts and 16 valve parts. it is much more expensive for the 16 valve parts plus the power increase is not justifiable. header, 2" exhaust, pod air filter, mass airflow power chip, ignition system and u have surpassed the gain from the engine swap in half the time.

It is absolutely worth it.
My 91 Kick had an 8-valve.
My 92 Kick, and my 3 95 Kicks all had 16 valves.
HUGE difference! Just Do it!

I'm not sure how cheap I can get it for yet. Will find out today. They are trying to find the keys so I can turn it over and do a compression check. See if its just one hole thats dead. Gonna check it out better after work tonight. does $300 CDN sound like an alright deal? I would figure on a complete rebuild anyways.
tracker8wr: what is this mass airflow chip you talk of? 8V are throttle body not mass air flow meter as far as I know!
-
The Mass Airflow sensor is in-line, between the air-box and the intake manifold - you should get it along with the engine. That's how the computer knows how much air the engine is sucking in.
$300CDN is AWESOME!

sorry i forgot 8 valve on ebay they sell a mass airflow chip that makes the engine run at optimum presets. i think it is for a 16 valve though.

Keep me posted on what you find out about it Chet. If you don't want it I may go over and have a look at it.

there is way more than a 15 h.p. diffrence between the two engines, I would say that mine fells like it has about 135 h.p. with 29 inch tires I can drag race the ricers around town in my sammy. p.s. and win.
