Title: SJ410 - 85 model with fibreglass top some help...
Post by: Jaun on April 04, 2005, 12:36:42 AM
Hi Can anyone maybe help me ?

I bought a 85 Sj410 2 weeks ago as a second vehicle  - i have never driven a 4 x 4 before.But this one is still in original condition with the 1000cc motor.

I did not receive the manual book with the suzi , if anyone can tell me what the fuel tank capacity is ?I seem to struggel finding it on the web.

And then there's some stuff that bothers me - I am not mechanically orientated so i know very little about engines and so.,

If anyone can please tell me I have 2 problems with the suzi - If you gear over theres a big bang noise at the back I think by the propshaft where it goes into the diff i'm nut sure. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or should i fix it and what needs to be done, would be much appreciated.I can tell you however that if you leave the clutch slowly the bang noise seems to be less almost gone. It's also leaking a little oil at the back.

Then the car seems to swivel from left to right almost like when a cars shocks are finished when you  reach 90 km/h. But it does not hover when you hit bumps. Can this be the shocks ?

I will really appreciate any comments on this.
Thank you very much

Fuel tank capacity is 40L (8.8 Imp gal). For more info have a look on my site under tech info

http://www.rhinoman.org

Steering problems could be caused by lots of different problems. Possibly shock absorbers, could also be a worn steering damper or worn kingpins or wheel bearings.
For the clunking, check propshaft UJs, play in the diff and also check for broken transfer case or engine mounts

Sounds like very loose U-joints, don't
drive it until you get them replaced, you
could ruin the Driveshaft or Propshaft as
Rhino so eloquently put it   ;)

Welcome to the underpowered world. ;D

If you need any specs give Hawk Suzuki a call.  They can give you just about any specs you need.  I use them to order all my 410 only parts as it makes things easier.

hi,

it's sways only when iget up to round a bout 90 km/h and at the front, and no the tyres don't cheerp,al though the tyres do make a noise when driving - almost like wind noise but i think it's normal.and sorry but i don't even have any idea what a rear locker is ?

Is there any way to adjust the U joints ?To make the tension stronger so that it does'nt have that much play on the propshaft ? OR do I have to replace them ?

No, I'm sorry to tell you that by the
time you hear them, it's too late, and
the stock U-joints didn't have a grease
fitting for lubrication, so you should just
have them replaced.

While the driveshaft is out, you can also
check to see if the ring and pinion gears
are loose also, good to check these things
before they break and cost more money

thanx for the advice will certainly make use of it.
An uncle of mine also told me to chack the ring and pinions for play.

Think best will be to have tha car checked and fixed at mechanic shop.

Thanx again
