Title: Does your 2.7 use oil???
Post by: trackinstile on March 31, 2005, 10:08:02 AM
Weird thing, this is now my second Suzuki truck that I own that uses oil like this.  In the first 500 miles about a half a quart, then about a half a quart every 1000 thereafter.  I can't figure it out.  My 2.0 4 cyl does it, now this one too.  Does anybody else have this problem?  Its no big deal, I don't mind a little oil usage, just wondering if anybody else has this. ;D

My sidekick used to that but the GV and now my XL-7 have been fine.  How ever I do have small leak in the front of the engine but I've seen no drop in oil levels on the dip stick.

I was figuring on those kind of responses.  I asked about a year and a half ago with the 2000 2.0 and same thing, most people don't use oil, mine does.  It's not more than the recomended amount from the factory, they say some oil usage is normal.  Neither of them smoke, I doesn't matter if its on the highways, local roads, driven real  easy, or beaten on, same thing.  It's just kind of weird.  I thought that my Tracker was just one of those things, but then to buy a totally difrent Suzuki with a V-6 and I get the same thing.  Oh well, no biggie, I'll just buy my Castrol GTX by the case now. ;D  Dave

I have a 97 Kick w/1.6l
Changed oil the other day and got 3 quarts back.
Never saw it smoking or anything.
Guess I gotta watch this one.

Look for the common threads when troubleshooting the problem. It appears from what you have written that your oil, filter, and service habits are the same for both vehicles. Plus both vehicles are Suzuki. Additionally, your driving style... How about modifications? Do you have a gauze K&N type filter on both? A well maintained and non-wornout engine will not use any appreciable amounts of oil between changes.

Anyway, I'd boil it down to Service interval, Service quality, Service materials, Vehicle Usage, Vehicle modifications, Vehicle type...

Thanks Erik, actually I religiously change it every 3,000 miles use Castrol 5-30 always, never anything thicker.  I use purcolater (OOPs mean purolater) oil filters, (their better than frams).  My wifes XL-7 hasn't used any oil since I added that and we've been using it, maybey its just a fluke thing.  I don't really drive them hard, shift |removethispart|@3500 rpm usually somethimes 4000, only once ina while do I wind it out to get moving.  Oh well, thanks for the suggestions though, any more is really appreciated.

Hmm, if you have two XL-7s and one is driven by your wife and one is driven by you. You have the same service intervals, method, and materials... and you have made no engine modifications to yours. This may suggest that it is your driving style or perhaps where your driving that differs from your wife and is causing the problem of oil consumption...

Try changing one thing at a time if you want to troubleshoot this problem...

Good Luck, Eric

OOPS meant to clarify that, I have a 2000 Tracker with the 2.0 litre "big block"  ;D in it with a 5 speed.  The other one is a XL-7 with the V-6 automatic etc.    I don't know about how bad my driving habits are, its mostly country roads around here with a 50 mph speed limit.  Thanks again Erik ;D  Dave
