Title: Lots of brake dust on 03 GV
Post by: AJMBLAZER on July 06, 2005, 04:51:42 AM
Okay, we just hit 30k on the odo (bought it in late March at 22,500) and I'm assuming it's got the original front brake components.  From looking during yesterday's tire rotation the pads, rotors, and other components look good...but very dusty.

Anyone else have this problem?

Literally it takes about 100-200 miles for my front wheels to be noticeably dark and dirty.  We just drove to Florida and back, around 3000 miles, and my front wheels were BLACK, despite driving through several hard rain storms.  I know some dust is common but these are horrible.

Is this due to the organic material OEM's have to use now?

Can anyone recommend any good pads to use to prevent this?  Brakes aren't my thing but I can do the work.

Lately since it's been in the 90's and very humid every now and then when we stop there will be a bit of a lurch at the end and a loud noise.  I'm thinking the pads may be sucking up some moisture due to the humidity?  I've heard of similar things with other vehicles.  Does this sound right or am I off my rocker?

Automatics are usually harder on the brakes than a stick shift. If it isn't causing any other trouble I'd live with it. My "04 dusts also but I wash it so often it's not realy an issue.

If you realy can't live with it there are pads that cut down on dusting.

Okay, that's about what I hear from others.  I think I'll live with it and wash it often unless she says otherwise. :P

Maybe I can get her to stop using the brake so much so hard.

>>Maybe I can get her to stop using the brake so much so hard.<<

I live in the mountains and usually brake on down hills using just the engine compression. It took me for ever to get the wife to stop riding the brakes to slow down. Better to pop the overdrive off or drop the automatic down a gear. I usually get 75,ooo miles,  before replacing shoes and pads.
