Title: Greasy CV
Post by: the_maplebar on June 16, 2005, 01:40:01 AM
I was looking around underneath my 02 Tracker yesterday while changing the oil, and noticd that the (US) passenger side CV was covered in grease.  The drivers side CV was a little dirty, but the pasenger side had such a thick layer of grease and dirt that you couldn't even tell tha it was green.

Is this normal?  Does this mean my CV is going out and leaking grease?  Any suggestions on what I need to do?

Thanks for your help.

It sounds like the CV boot is torn.  You will probably need to remove and clean the joint of all grease and dirt, repack it, and put a new boot on it.  Do it quick or you WILL need a new joint!!!!!

That was my first thought, but I looked at the boot and didn't see anything.  My lighting wasn't very good though.

I did clean off the CV so I will take a closer look with better light and watch it to see if any more grease shows up.
