Title: what year GV steel 3rd?

so i pulled out the whole front while doing my gear change, to clean replace bolts etc.  OMG the housing (when empty) weighs nothing!  no wonder they crack/break.  could someone tell me or show me a post that will tell me what year of GV steel one willl work?  and is it as straight swap or not?  thanks.
