Title: creeky ball joints
Post by: bus_driver on July 16, 2005, 12:59:47 PM

Check them ouot and see if they have grease fittings or fitting plugs

If they have grease fittings just grease the beast

If they have the fitting plugs (looks like a 6-8mm bolt) in the bottom of the ball joint, take them out and install grease fittings, then grease the beast

While you are there check the play in the ball joint, if it isn't to spec after greasing, replace.

If it doesn't have etheir...gotta replace the balljoint

if you jack the car up by the frame and they pop apart that would be a cheap 90.00.

thank you !!! had that one covered
the only reason I am thinking re grease is becuz I did a lot of water crossings and I am wondering if they can dry out? since they are not greasable.
I will have to check there tolerance b4 I do anything.

One thing you can try, that is if the Ball Joints
are good, is to install a Zerk fitting into the bottom,
but use a low profile one so it doesn't get knocked
off by some greedy rock  ;)

You can modify most ball joints this way if they
don't come with a plug or Zerk installed
