Title: Help needed with greenpeace!
Post by: mystickiss on July 17, 2005, 05:56:39 AM
Im new to this forum but after a little bit of advice!

I drive a Suzuki Vitara Sport 2, 1.6L. I was out for a nice meal the other day when I came back to someone from green peace had stuck a flyer on my car saying it is a 'gas guzzling 4x4 and I am destoying the environment' So very annoyed by this littering on my car I sent them an email and got this reply...

"Please could you forward the make and model of your car to us. Here at Greenpeace we were under the impression that all 4x4s were inefficient vehicles for normal on-road use due to their greater weight. This is why the government classifies all 4x4s as band 'F' in its A-F fuel efficiency rating system. If you have discovered a 4x4 which is lighter than a normal car, or has some technological fix which enables it to run as though it were, we would be fascinated to hear about it. If your car is not a 4x4, then our volunteer has clearly made a foolish error and we unreservedly apologise."

So if anyone could help with the technical stuff fo r a reply it would be very much appreciated!

I can't provide you with the same kind of documentation as above, but my silver 90 2 door tracker is lighter and gets much better mpg than my g/f's 2 door cavalier(97).  She only gets around 20-22 mpg and Silver got 27-30 mpg on stock tires... Even on 31" swampers, Silver gets 20 mpg, and that's without compensating for the odometer's reading on the bigger tires...

And unless your Greenpeace activist is dedicated enough to use a bike, you might ask what the fuel efficiency of the car he was driving. I'm guessing that while it was idling during the time he was putting the poster on your car he was getting in the neighborhood of 0 MPG.  I drive (and love) my Tracker because it is still one of the smallest, most fuel efficient vehicles on the road today.  Trying to put a Hummer, Excursion, Suburban, and a Trackick into the same catagory seems kind of ignorant.  Some of the best advice I ever got was "Never get into a fight with an idiot; they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience" ;D

P.S. FWIW, my favorite scene in Armageddon was when Bruce Willis was firing golf balls at the Greenpeace boat off the oil platform   :D

Best advice is this...Stop talking to them. They were all brainwashed at whatever liberal (Read that Communist,  because the bra burning fem hippies run all US schools of higher learning. ) college they went to and there is no way they can be helped or understood. They all think they are on the moral high road, but they are really on the road to the destruction of us all. The communal hippies of the 1960s still want to " bring it all down man " Green Peace is funded by the " One world government crowd " Thats John Kerry and wife among many. BUT dont think the Bushs- Republicans are your friend either. Billions to Africa ...for what...Aids ?
The African War Lords are not going to give any of that money to  AIDS patients....I probably shouldn't post this...but this is one of the many reasons I drive Zooks. Liberal will never understand the likes of Zukaholics. Just stop talking to them and wait till you can see the whites of their eyes...

Yeah, this is good advice.  People like this, when presented with facts that are contrary to what they believe, will just ignore them anyway because it doesn't suit their agenda.
And on the Bush-Republicans point, I hope you have heard that they have decided not to throw any more money at Africa until things there start to change.
I will get off my soap box now, but when you do see the whites of their eyes, make a V with your index and middle fingers and insert firmly.  That usually stops them.

It won't be fingers that I'll be giving them...and they won't see it coming. "Wait till you see the whites of their eyes" is an old Johny Reb saying. Johny also said "The South Will Rise Again" and I think it may be so, before it is all over. The only reason the North won was because they kept importing aliens from Europe and puting guns in their hands , sending them south to kill native born Americans. Now the Republicrats are importing forieners by the millions. If the baturds do win in the end....It will be somewhere in the South that the last  Real American will stand defiant... >:( with his finger in the air...just before he jams the ZUK in low range.  ;D

Thanks for the soapbox Eric :)

I saw a special on the Discovery channel, 'Unsolved History' maybe, that talked about what would have happened if the south had won the war. They said that other chunks of the country would have followed suit and the US would be made up of 7-8 small countries. These countries operating independently would not be very economicaly productive for the first 100 years or so. This would have greatly effected our position in the world market. Instead of one great military force there would be 7-8 weak armies.

You should point out that your 4x4 is 2wd when used on the road. I'm sure its considerably lighter than a large number of saloon cars.

I'm not a litterer by nature but when enviromentalists give me this crap I throw it on the ground - hopefully in front of them so they'll feel obligated to clean it up.

ok guys incase all of u have forgoten keep ur freinds close and ur enemies closer it is chinese art of war very effective. these guys r the ones closing our trials and presuring auto makers into calling mini vans suvs. every day i hear of a new allwheel drive primary front wheel drive suv. yes a zuk is a very fuel efficiant vehicle even when lifted and that is really helping at the pump. just remember that these guys get laws passed and have public lands closed to OHV use all the time they r very organized and to just ignore them is killing offroading for the future. If we don't give them the real facts then they will have to get there half truths and half facts from the same source they r coming from. none of there experiance is from the real world it is from books, thier friends, and thier organization. if they r educated with the facts maybe they will have a more rounded view and be less apt to freak because a flower got ran over on a trail then goes and tells thier boss and they file and injunction and trail is closed because it was the last Moose lylac lily only to find out ,after the trail is closed for 5 years to conduct a study, that a hiker had stepped on it better than that the other green peace guy that was 25 ft in front of the person that saw it. however that person was so well educated that he couldn't tell the diferance between tire tread and a foot print. so remeber these stupid, close minded, ill informed, people have power because they have a cause they r pasionate about and people listen. watch ur back and educate everyone u can because that is what they r doing.

so that must mean that we are "smart, open minded, well informed, people that dont have any power cause we have a cause that we are passionate about and we try to get people to listen?
that sounds right to me ;)

I would have made 100-200(or more) copies of the flyer and threw them all over the place,...everywhere. It's funny, greenpeace trying to make the world a better place by making hopeless flyers out of "paper"

Soap Box time.............

I'm with "mystickiss", prove them wrong, question their education and ethics and use their own tactics against them.

GreenPeace succeeds because they have found the way to organize, motivate and operate as a political force. While I don't agree with alot they do, you have to admire their ability.
At the "Right" side of the scale, the NRA does the same thing and I don't necessairly agree with everything they do etheir.

     4X4 guys want more trails/offroad sites/ respect.....learn from them........

If, for example, just the folks on this board added up what they have spent on their rigs, modifications, cost to travel to events, it would be 10-20 MILLION dollars. Multiply that by the number of 4X4 groups....HUNDREDS of MILLIONs of $$$$$$$ and how many hundreds or thousands of jobs........

Now jam that in front of a politician as a united, organized front and watch the action you will get!!!!!!!!!

The independance that guys in the whole automotive game value so highly often works against us politically.......Organize, Motivate and act as a United Political Force and you will get change.........

Till then GreenPeace and other special interest groups are in the drivers seat and the only thing an individual can do is be like "mystickiss", be a sniper, Question/Question/Question and
very politely don't take their non sense without giving it back...nicely.

Off the soap box

Thanks I've vented now

The 100th of 1 percent minority gets
the floor while the majority is told to
go away. Fringe groups like this get
stupid stuff and laws passed because
of what the public thinks they stand for,
not what is really going on.

These people would have all of the great
outdoors closed off to everyone, except
themselvs, just because they think that's
the way nature is supposed to be, and
only they are informed enough to be out
there.

Like the endangered Spotted Owl, and it
"needs old growth" trees to breed, as someone
spots one in the "O" of a roadside dinner sigh

Or like the infomercial I saw in which they
claim the logging industry cuts down Old Growth
trees to make disposable paper products.

So when was the last time you ate off of Redwood
Paper Plates, or wipped yourself with Cedar Toilet Paper
???

I couldn't agree more with all the responses i've seen here.  But there is one good thing that has come from Greenpiece (of poo-poo).  Tread Lightly and groups like them are our response to Green peace and are out to show the world that you can use the outdoors responsibly.  It is up to us not only to make our voices known at the ballot box, but to give the public a reason to believe in us as well.  We need to make our voice a credible one so that Green Peace begins to look like the environmental wackos that they really are.  Public opinion and a voice with the law makers, as well as responsible 4wheeling will get us the results we desire. :)
