It's been bugging me.....
That I seem to be getting dramatically better gas mileage than everyone else that I've heard comment.......then it dawned on me.......I work out everything to a CANADIAN gallon.
The Canadian gallon is 20% bigger so my 38mpg is really 31mpg US gallon
Hows that compare?
The wifes unit is a 1992 SideKick 4 dr, 1.6/16v, 5 speed, 4X4 of course.
- P215-75-15 all terrains
- K/N Aircleaner
- 2" Exhaust with Turbo muffler

My '93 4dr 1.6 16v auto
-31x10.5 Muddies
-5.125 Diffs
28mpg US

my 97 sidekick sport 4dr 1.8liter gets 26mph 225/30/20 tires
-
95' 4dr kick JLX 5speed 16v 1.6
215-75-15 wranglers
27-28mpg, but my speedo is ailing.
Went on a 340 mi trip to the mountains, with about 20mi in 4wd, 60mi more on dirt road,
crossing the Colorado continental divide 3 times, and a pass at over 12,000 feet, 30.4 mpg!
Zag, you get better mpg than me. I need to get a new cat back system, I was thinking of calmini's.Do you have a better suggestion?  About 2 ft of my tail pipe rusted off, and looks as if there is rustage around seam of the muffler. Is your k/n filter a separate unit or a drop in the old air box kind.  After reading about the snorkel thing, does the zuke need that box and other extra tubing in the wheel well? I am also looking at new tires before winter, and I want 235's but I worry about rubbing.  I am thinking of doing the spring spacer thing this winter. Would that help?

ok zaggy
33 litres took me 382km do the math for me thanks in mpg
:)

Thats 25.4 mpUSg according to my calculator...
Zag
-
our gas mileage is around 25-28mpg with 31's and a five speed
-
I get between 25 to 28 the best in my 2000 with the four and a stick and my wifes XL-7 with an automatic and power everything gets about 21 sometimes a little better sometimes a little worse, but never less than 20 ;D
-
Mine is an 89' automatic TBI 1.6 8V
brand new never got better than 23
mostly 21-23
Now with 33" tires, 5.83 gears total
of 7 inches of lift and the turbo I get
18-20 highway, all considered I didn't
think that was a big MPG price to pay
for the mods, and the power, well it's
worth the drop to pass Jeeps on the
Steeps ;D

The Calmini stuff looks good but I've never used it. I always get my stuff done locally because
1) I'm cheap
2) I always try to support the local racers that support me and there's a bunch in the exhaust
biz.
If it was me and you have a good exhaust shop that the rodders and racers use I'd go for a 2 1/8" tube from the CAT back and use a "Turbo Style" good quality muffler....my complete system from the manifold back...installed...only cost $200.00.
If there is no one in your area with a good rep or they are crazy expensive the Calmini system does look like a good option...ask around on the board for guys that have used it.
My airfilter is the KN replacement filter in the stock airbox with a couple extra 2" holes drilled in it.
I use NGK plugs ( the V fire not the platinum or multi prong) NGK 8mm wires and keep the pig in time and clean.
By the way I cruise the Hi Way at 120-130km (about 70-75mph)

thanks zag
that's pretty good milage for me considering it's all city miles in vancouver with all the hill and traffic. i also drove it harder during that tank of gas, usually i'm lite on the gas pedal and never rev it past 3000rpm. i also fill it way before it needs to so i never really new what my milage was, i always figured it was around 25mpg :)
i'm going to be installing my calmini header in the next few weeks, and a complete new exhaust 2" with a high flow cat, and muffler. i can't wait to see what kind of power, and milage gains i get.
-
Awesome....that should make a big improvement if you don't drive the !|removethispart|@$%^ outof it with all the new found power.

the goblin running 33's on a 8 valve engine, 5spd and 5.12's, with K&N drop -in filter and a header with full 2-1/4" exhaust, through all the hills around here, I get about 17mpg without correcting for the speedo being off 15mph at 60mph...
-
yup after hearing a few times on this board how a cat back makes a huge improvement. i'm doing a complete upgrade from head to tailpipe. i'll report in after the installation.
-
With the 8v and 32s i got about 20mpg, but as soon as I get diesel swap on the road I should get over 30 I was told.. :)
-
My X-90 gets 25-28 MPG running at 75-85 mph. But my Kick gets about half that.

Man
I understand why my mp "Canadian"gallon shocked everybody even when I convert to US I'm still doing real well.
I know raising the vehicles will hurts the aerodynamics and will hurt gas mileage...do you think the rest is the larger diameter tires making the little engine work harder?
Any thoughts............

More rolling resistance, more unsprung weight, less aerodynamic do to lift, more vehicle weight do to lift, skid plates, rollbars.
I am also wondering if everyone is taking into account that the taller tires give you less revs per mile.
Also, without gear correction, the larger tires are making the RPM lower. Basiclly "lugging" the engine. So we are not in the meat of the torque curve anymore.
All that being said, my uncorrected mileage is about 26. ;D

All things considered one has to be impressed...........
Very capable, modified, 4X4's getting 20-25 mpg US, that is impressive
Thanks

I see that alot of people are not correcting for larger tires. You are actually getting better mileage than you thought! I 30" tire will travel farther than your stock tire will per revolution so what ever your odometer says you need to add what ever % in tire size difference you have.
I travel the same route to work every day and usually get 3.5 days to a tank full this was before the lift and tires. I am still basically the same so my mileage is still arouns 25-28 MPG(us)
-
Both of my speedo's are near dead on. My mileage suffers due to high mileage on the engines and driving my vehicles WAY to hard. My Kick is usually has the pedal on the floor where ever I go and the X-90 is 0-75 as fast as I can get there then hold it at 75-85 mph for 90 miles twice a day. If I would slow down a bit I think my mileage would increase dramatically.

I get between 28-30 in my stock 2wd tracker.
-
18mpg
-
I'm about 20mpg on hiways ... about .5 gph while trail running.
(31" tires, steel wheels, really tired 8V)
-
with a 186,000 miles I get 29.5 with 30's around town and 25 at about 75mph highway driving, with my 8v.
-
My 28 mpg with 31's is a corrected figure. I thought mine was a bit thirsty but I'm feeling better now :) still want a long range tank though as jerrys take up space.
-
Man the 1.8 must get crappy gas mileage. :-[ Because mine has been lowered at has no bigger tires then stock. I was thinking maybe the twenties added weight would bring it down. But i get the same as before adding the twenties. I think the best i ever pulled was 27 28 average is 24-26
-
Just in case you wanted to know what stock kick's / X90 give. My 1600, 16V 4 door gives 28 MPG around town, my 2.0 V6 gives 26 MPG around town, my X90 gives me 35 MPG around town. I am happy with these figures.
-
i never really figured out my mpg but i'll get about 550km to a tank of gas in somer and about 400km in winter if i dont get sidways in every corner i come to witch i find hard to do 99 tracker 2.0litre
-
23 mph before the lift and 31' tires and much abuse,
Now it gets 18-20 around town, about 16 highway (it has to work real hard to maintain highway speeds). While running mostly trails, not the rocks, I still get about 18 MPH. It's an odd little duck, but seems to run better as soon as I leave pavement.

Yeah it's kinda slow :o, but mostly it's the nut behind the Wheel ;D

I've been trying do decide if I want to get a newish Jeep or not so I've been researching their gas milage. Their 4 is lucky to get 20 mpg on a stock vehicle and the 6 gets more like 16 mpg. I will be staying with Zuk's at that rate! My Tracker with emissions issues gets 19-20 mpg in summer but can go as low as 15 in the winter. 2 newer ones (99+) I've driven both got around 24-25 mpg.
-
I only get 20 average with my near stocker... I need a new O2 sensor and I beleive the exhaust is shot, perhaps that makes the difference.
-
i am not sure any more what mine is last year i used to do 350km on 33-35 litres now I seem to never get over 300kms but mostly I drove around town with flat tires and a bad o2 sensor so now I have pumped up the tires to 28psi (not 16 anymore) I am running 235's and a straight 2inch exhaust no cat . just replaced the O2 and now I will see what it is. but I will admit I am heavy on the skinny pedal. I am very binary on these things full on or full off.
will tell at the end of this tank.
-
The "new" 96 with stock tires get 25.5 average, mostly highway. BUT, the TCC isn't locking correctly, and I have an EGR issue.. it might increase a little when I get those things ironed out.
I think there is a conspiracy, as my full size 96 Lincoln Town Car got 25, with a 4.6, and my F-150, with nearly the same motor as the Lincoln, and about the same weight, gets all of 16...... lol...
I miss my 40mpg metro!!!
Who knows what the "Turtle" gets... something like a weekend on a tank, with some left over.. lol...
-
mine has the 8 v motor. for a while it got 24to 25, then after I tuned it up (new spark plugs, o2 sensor, exhaust manifold, and cherry bomb muffler(not as loud as I had expected)) it got about 26 to 28, and one time while I was driving in the mountains, I saw 29 mpg. Probably the worst I have seen was 17 or 18, but that was when it was running on 3 cylinders :P. the tires I have are 215/75r15s
-
My '98 Sport gets a consistent 33 mpg on the highway, a bit less climbing mountain passes, a bit more downhill. That is driving 55 to 60 mph. It is a stock 5-spd, with slightly larger than stock tires. Sure appreciate that kind of mileage with gas prices where they are. Trouble is, the wife would rather run it around than her Nissan pickup.
-
235/75-15s & turbo |removethispart|@ 6psi getting roughly 20-27mpg depending entirely on the foot. ;D
-
94 8 valve 5 speed ,5:125 3rds 235-75-15 tires .............20-24 MPG
when I get my 32s on and a spool it will prob be 15 MPG
-
23mpg consistant with my low-pro 18s
wish it was better

My new Sunrunner 16v is at 28mpg now that I have the 235-75's on it. It was getting close to 30mpg with the stock 205-75's. A huge improvment over my 92 8v on 30-9.5 getting 17/18mpg.

mine's....
too terrible for words :-\

1990 8 valve automatic 3 spd with 5.125 gears with 31" trxus tires gets 20MPG or 11.5litres /100kms .mostly highway

i have a 92 1.6l 8v auto, with 235/75/15 tires and 5.125 gears, i have been getting around 28 mpg. the best i have seen is 31. :)
