Title: Noisy Samurai
Post by: Cowan123c on March 29, 2005, 01:05:17 PM
I have a samurai and it makes a winding type noise that starts at about 20 mph and up.  Im thinking the transfer but not sure.  I checked all the oils in the tranny and transfer and all full.  Maybe the bearings  in the transfer or transmissoin are bad im not sure.  It doesnt sem as strong as some of the other samurais I have drove so it might be time to rebuild the transfer  But I dont want to pull it all out if I dont have to.   Maybe some of you know.

If it's hot where your at it is prob. normal. if it's cold then your looking at bearings.

put your parking brake on, unlock your front hubs, put your transfer case in nutral, start it up and put it in fourth gear and let the clutch out, get a small stick put it to your ear and then the other end on your trans or transfer case and you should be able to track it down.

Does it make the same noise when you let the clutch out with the truck sitting and not in gear?
