Title: Service engine soon*
Post by: weaver on July 19, 2005, 07:39:55 PM
my damn light that says service engine soon has been on for about 1yr and 1/2, but last week when i put in my body lift i disconnected the battery for about 6 hours and when i put it all back together the light was off......           i was very pleased with this.
so yesterday i got my new wheels and tires put on 235/75, and then today that light came back on...         now i know that it does this after 75000 miles, mines 77000 and i know that i need to go to a suzuki dealer to get it reprogrammed or turned off, etc..

but is it possible that with the new tires i may be actually injuring my engine?    tragedy!

 ???

It's probably the EGR. Go to Autozone and they'll tell you for free. ;) When you unhooked the battery you cleared the code. It normally takes a while for it to come back.

I bet it's just the reminder light,
No you aren't doing any damage
to your Trucklet, you didn't say
but there is a reset switch on some
models, behind the speaker in the
dash on the left side, you might
give that a try

96 up doesnt have a reminder light. His rig has OBDII. It took time to relearn the code, thats why it was off for a while.

A common problem that seems to occur at about your mileage is that the steel tube that goes to the EGR gets plugged with carbon.  Take the tube off (2 10mm bolts each end)  and run a piece of wire through it.  If it is plugged, you may have to clear the passage in the head (or block or manifold...  ...I don't remember exactly which it is.)  The trouble code read out as EGR.

When I did this on my '96 (and replaced the EGR valve) the light went off after about ten minutes of driving.

Good luck.

If it took awhile to come on it could be a memory code meaning if you unplugg the battery agian and it takes awhile to come on get a obdII reader and read out the code. I'm almost willing to bet its a o2 sensor.
