Title: Uk vitara 5 door
Post by: nik on July 20, 2005, 11:58:19 AM
Hi All,

Looking to get my 1st 4x4, my plan is to go extreme off road.

I like the look of the vitaras / sidekick on this and other sites (high/wide/big wheels).

My question is are the 5 door models as good as the 3 door?

Regards

its all about how you want it.  if you need the extra room inside or the extra WB to somthing then the 4 door.  if you want the smallest rig on the trail to get though tight rocks then the 2 door.  convertable is also nice to have.  the drivetrain in both 2 door and 4 door is the same.  The 4 door weighs more then a 2 door.

I've got both and the 5dr rides better and climbs better but the 3dr fits on the tight windy stuff better. My 3dr is going and I'm focusing on my 5dr.

Ditto.
Well, actually, I'm working on building a 4dr for the extra room.
But True on what 1bigtracker
I, Personnelly, like them both. ;) ;D

Mine's the 4spd auto and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

I wish I had an Auto but what the heck.
With an Auto, gear changes are easier and cheaper.
Any 5spd will have the 5:12s
Don't need a crawler gear.
Autos are good for that.

Autos aren't very popular in the UK. We like to decide for ourselves when we change gear  ;D. I doubt if changing to a manual would be cost effective and it could be difficult to source parts for it if it goes wrong. There are a fair few 5 doors about, decide what you want and find one. if you can afford it and find one the X-Exec is very nice.

i'm swaping a 4sp auto into my 5 speed stick 4 door.   i'm building it to go rock crawling with and have little to no experance(sp) on rocks so the auto is a no brainer for me.  don't want to drop the clutch and break axles.

oh wait, i'm using a 9in and a D44 with 33's ;D
