Hey,
I live in MA in the USA
I have a 93 Sidekick 8 Valve Engine (I think)
I think I have a bent or pitted valve:
The car passes Emissions perfectly
but runs rough at IDLE and has bad compression leakdown on #2
Irratic vacumme at IDLE
I need a cyclinder head, I just don't know whats the best thing to do...
have it rebuilt or get a reman...
The bottom end has 147,000 and the cars a bit rusty.. but it's a blast to drive
and could easily be made good again..
Can anyone help me with a good source for parts in the NE of the USA?

Best price is to get yours rebuilt,
fastest is to buy a rebuilt ready to go
Adjust your valves at regular intervals,
I think every 15,000 and you won't have
to do this again, for some reason Suzuki
valves tighten as they wear, and this causes
burned valves, I had to do my head at
200,000 miles from this problem

In my book
reman and rebuilt are the same thing
I would get my own head rebuilt at a good machine shop and insure I got a 3 angle valve job

With that many miles unless you want to put alot of money in it, just get a good used engine and put in there.

I was thinking 147,000km which is not much.....147,000 miles is a pile of miles

If the engine runs well (no smoke or oil burning,
even compression #s) you should get a good
50K more miles out of it.

The engine pulls strong, and does not burn oil...
I am going to rip off the head and have someone look at it.
I want minimum $$ for the most miles..
+ I don't have a good place to swap the engine..
If I can achieve another 40K out of the motor for $250 and some time
learning how to do a cyclinder head... that would be a good deal.
I think the breaks have moisture in the lines too.. the break pedal
locks up in the morning on very cold days ( below 0 deg C ) in MA
Any ideas of a place in the NE that has good remanufactured parts...

or machine work?
Whats a good place to get a reman... autozone?
What an expected price range?
Gaskets where to get?
I need cyclinder, exhaust and intake correct?
Any others?

Get a head set, you're going to need the seals etc anyway.
As far as where to get it done....let your fingers do the walking in the
Yellowpages.
Just make sure....
- The shop is familar with doing overhead cam cylinder heads
- Get new guides
- I always recommend a 3 angle valve grind
- Get the head face surfaced
Do some comparitive shopping...

I spent $200 for my head about 5-6 years ago,
and I had Stainless Exhaust valves put in, those
were $20 ea :o, so I guess I got the head done
for a pretty good price
