A year ago, when I purchased my 1998 Tracker, the Check Engine light was on. The salesman assured me that it was probably a sensor that needed to be replaced and he assured me that they would fix it and not just pull the bulb on the Check Engine light. Sure enough when I took the car home, the Check Engine light was no longer on. However, the speedometer was not working. I had to turn right around and go back to the dealer so they could reconnect the speedometer cable. In retrospect I should have suspected the reason why the speedometer got disconnected was when they disabled the Check Engine light.
Anyway, last week I took the Tracker in for emmission testing and it failed. Two codes came up: P0400 EGR Flow Malfuction; and P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction. Before I try messing around with these codes I figure I better get the Check Engine light working first. Can anyone tell me how to go about reconnecting the Check Engine light?
Thanks

They probably just pulled the bulb,
get in there and see if you just need
to replace it, hopefully they didn't
toss the bulb holder too

What state you in? I had the same issue with mine the check engine light was missing and first year emission failed. THe dealer pulled the light . Luckly all it was was a o2 but still made me mad. You can acutally go back on the dealer for modifeying the emissions. You could go to the state or just threaten to turn them in.
