the lake that was next to the mud hole is called carpenter lake. it would be about 4 hours north of vancouver bc. the whole area is full of old logging roads and mining trails. you could spend about 3-4 days exploring the area. my girlfriend and i have 2 really good camping spots in the area that are on 2 lakes. the water in the lakes is so clear that you can see at least 20 feet down to the bottom if not further. if anybody wanted to come up i would gladly give directions.

a message for you yanks. up here in bc there are so many off-roading places with lakes, and beautiful scenery. it would almost take a lifetime to find them all. we hear about all your woes in the states with parks becoming off limits to off-roaders. so why not plan some trips up here, you'll be floored by all the awsome places to go. also i don't think there is enough man power to keep people from going off-road here, there is just too much wilderness here. we are so blessed here it's amazing.

woops sorry canucks for letting the secret out  ::)
