1.6/8v

We weighed the engine several times before installing on the aircraft

186 pounds complete including.....
- induction system
- header
- alternator
- starter
- flywheel
- 4L oil
- 1 gallon anti freeze

weighed on a digital commercial scale

Love to know the comparable weights for the 1.6 16v, 2.0 16v & the 2.5 V6. I've considered doing engine swaps but here we have to have the vehicles engineered and they place limits on how much heavier the replacement engines can be amongst other things.

Hey CJ

I don't have the exact weights here but...as I remember
-1.3/8v is right about 165lbs as described above                                              165
-1.3/16v is about 35lbs heavier than 1.3/8v                                                      200
-1.6/8v as described above 186lbs (just reweighed it thats why I remember)  186
-1.3/16v DOHC is about 35lbs heavier than 1.6/8v                                             221
-1.6/16v SOHC is about 30lbs heavier than 1.6/8v                                             215
-2.0/16v DOHC is about 60lbs heavier than 1.6/8v                                             245

I haven't yet weighed the V-6's sorry

The reason I went with the 8v for the airplane was power vs weight vs install difficulty and the 2.0 wasn't available yet.

Did you by any chance measure the difference in size between the 1.3 and 1.6?  Was it just the block that was taller?  By how much?  Were their differences in the height of the different heads (8v/16v/dohc)?

Were the 16v's heavier because of the heads or manifolds or flywheels?

Do you know how much bigger/heavier the 1600 2wd gearbox is over the 1300 gearbox?

(Looking at options for powering a small rwd sportscar). :-\

Many thanks,
Bryan.

Hi there
For what I was doing the engines were virutally identical in size...for automotive use the difference is in the height of the block and the mounting of the engine to bell housing,,,the weight difference is a little bit of everything...block...crank...flywheel etc. Same with the 8v-16v SOHC-DOHC it all adds up.

Sorry can't give you anything specific on the trans..I didn't need to use one so I didn't do any research....but off hand I'd say the difference is minimal.
