Title: My live axle project so far
Post by: mbmarkyb on August 07, 2005, 03:27:08 PM
After lots of thinking moaning and head scratching I decided I have had enough of camber problems -resulting in bearings going etc etc.

I decided to go live axle on coils using  a sammy axle

Here is where i am at , im doing a write up on my website here http://www.markyb.co.uk/live_axle.htm

Here is a couple of pics but the rest are on the link above let me know your thoughts.

and i just wish i could have those blue bits that you've taken off.

let us know how it all goes.

Bracing up the axle is in te plan i will get it up and running and then have a go, im not the best at makig things like that so it might come later.

Yeah those springs are LWB ones as they were going on top of the axle under chassis i didnt need long ones it is sitting nice at present with a few changes to be made this weekend

Looking good so far mark.
Will be an ace truck when its finished.

Will have to have a twist off to see weather my vit on hilux axles and leaves is more flexy than your coil set up.

I used those first, but I changed them cause they are designed to be used with IFS set up.They must be aprox 400 Lbs ,too stiff, they wont give you much flex. For a solid  I believe you d better use 200-220 Lbs.Are you going to use a panhard on the front?

Tony, we will in deed have to have a felx off.  I think it will take me a few months to get it tricked out to full flex , im concentrating on getting it working right but it should flex.

I need to get my truck weighed but with the external cage winch etc it must weigh in nearly 2 ton as my old calmini springs used to touch.  I agree 400lbs would be too much for a fairly standard truck but with the extra weight im hoping they will be good,

without the shocks installed i can rock from side to side falirly easily at the moment ,   I will see once its up and running and change the springs if needbe once i get it out on a test run. probably going to dump the rear springs too as they are sagging badly.
