I did the header and a Flowmaster Exhaust on mine and noticed a considerable power change (+Plus it sounded allot cooler 8))

You should be happy with it. Let us know what you think when you get it fitted.

HaHaHa, STORY TIME!

I bought the Calmini header for the Gnewt - it was the first mod I did.  But I didn't get it installed before I went to EJS in 2002, so I took it along, and installed it at my tent site, at Slickrock Campground.

Well, you know how it is.  You put the header on, and before you bolt up the Cat, you just gotta turn it over, to see what it sounds like, with open pipes.  I was surprised that it wasn't a lot louder!  Somebody described it as a pi$$ed-off bumblebee.

I have the calmini header on BOTH my Sidekicks - it's a great boost in power, performance, AND mileage.

does just putting on a header with the stock pipes give a performance boost ? or a noticable one ?

i've got a 16v engine.

On a 16 valve its less noticable than an 8 valve. the sound is better but I doubt it will worth it without doing the complete system.

It rocks!! It was a very noticable difference from stock...put a free flowing intake on to complete the package...lemme tell you it turns heads when I get on the gas with this setup ;D

On my vehicle the gas mileage went down...cuz I'm hard on the throttle a whole lot more now ;)

Minor welding is welding the cat in place...

If it doesn't include the right pipe you need, you can always get a piece of flex-pipe to clamp in from your local auto parts store... I like the one I got from Advance. It also allows some flex in the exhaust system in case of impact with rocks.... It helps save exhaust gaskets :D

Balance is everything.  If you bolt on headers and free flow muffler to let the engine exhale better, you have to free up the intake to let it inhale better, or you will not see the performance gain you are looking for.  Install a k&n or similar air filter at the same time you're doing the headers/muffler, and you will definitely see an improvement.

On a side note: I just dont believe in removing catalitic converters.  The amount of shit that these little devices remove is tremendous, and the loss of power is so minor, its just not worth the harm you cause to the environment.  Believe me, I'm no tree-hugger, but them's the facts. Also , if you have some extra money burning a hole in your pocket, kill the factory cat and put on an aftermarket (free-er flowing) cat and I bet you will have no performance decrease by using the device.

Checked your oil level lately? Maybe you are hearing some valve clatter. The Goblin seems to make some noise as well...

its weird cause it started hapenin after i put the header on idk what it is and im kinda worried......quick question when i was putten the header on i yanked off the factory header and the factory header used a metal gasket...i didnt use that i used the one calmini gave me ...do u think it could have a leak cause of a faulty gaskit? also im not running a cat i removed it.... could that possibly have somethin to do with it and does the length of the wires i used to extend  the o2 sensor with affect it in any way?

Check your spark plug wires,
look at night with the hood up
and engine running, if you see
a spark jumping from the boot,
replace the plug wires.

I'm going to guess you pulled the
plug wires off when you did the header
and one of them is damaged or old
and is now leaking the high voltage spark

Make sure all of the header bolts are torqued correctly...sounds like it could be a leak around the header flange...

Thats it. The gasket you put on has a sheild on it for the plug wires. the rivits that attatch it to the gasket raise the header off the head... causing a leak. Use the calmini one.

One thing I did was to replace all
the bolts with studs, and then use
stainless steel nuts and washers.

This does 2 things for you, 1 is that
the bolts won't strip out the threads
in the aluminum head, and 2 the stainless
nuts don't rust into place, and are easy to
remove in the future
