Title: Pacesetter headers...whats the problem?
Post by: zaggy on August 10, 2005, 04:18:00 PM
Hey gang

I've been researching headers and have only found 4 that have the correct square ports
- Calmini (already got one on the airplane...modified)
- Hawk   ( like the header, hate the price)
- Janspeed ( if you don't like the Hawk price this one will put you in a Coma)
- Pacestter (relatively cheap look good in the pics)

I realize the Pacesetter is a 4-1 and I can work with that, but on another thread there were several guys referring to them as Junk.

Any particular reasons?

Leaks.

From what I have read and heard, the flange is too thin, and leaks.

I put one on a Sami I had.  It fit well, It has no leaks.  All of the paint burnt off the first time I ran it.  The thing is rusty and looks like crap now.  I think the tubes may burn through soon.

I think if you cleaned off all of the paint and put something good on it, it may last a long time.

Not that Chief

I've probly read the same stuff you have and appreciate you passing it on. But I have found that often guys who have actually used the stuff know what the problems are and I'm going to be modifiying the header any way...so if I am moding I can solve the probelms

DOn't waste your money. Bad construction, thin tube and with my sami I had to actally cut the output on the header and aim it away from the frame rail. (it hit the frame otherwise. )
I made it work but it was a pos.  I also had to reweld the 4-1 area as it broke and leaked after awhile.

Over here the Janspeed is cheaper than the Hawk and not a bad deal as headers go. Was that price from a US distributor, if so how much did they quote you?

I can't remember the price in pounds...but it worked out to 460.00 CDN plus freight, got the pricing from the Janspeed website.

I have a pacesetter and a calmini and the calmini easily outperforms the pacesetter. I agree with what others have said here about the construction and fit of the header. Having said that for the 89.00 I paid for mine new it was better than running a cracked manifold.
