I just finished making new side panels and mounting a pair of 6x9" speakers just above the rear wheel wells. I had done this to Silver some time ago, but I just did it to the Goblin. I find the radio sounds much better this way. Has anyone else found any cool/easy places to mount speakers in these rigs?
-
I removed the rear seat belt towers and put 6x9s there. It was an almost perfect fit and sounds much much better!
-
i've done the same thing. i have 6" speakers in the front doors, and 6x9"s in the back panels, like you do.
i also filled in the rear behind the panels with some sound deadener material, just to stop the resonation from the 6x9"s, and it gives better bass out of the speakers. instead of just tin noises.
i can post up pics later.
-
You looking like something like a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls mounted on a trailer behind the rig, powered by a pair of 1000 W amps?
'Cause I've never done anything like that. (But wouldn't it be great for parties at the far end of the trail?)
-
I have had a pair of 6X9's sitting, never installed for well over 10yrs......Now I know what to do with them. Got any picts?

yup ... and fill the area with some "poly fill" and you can get a nice bass response.

so people got some pics of speakers mounted? i have to put some larger speakers in the rear of my 4 door and the only good pic i have seen is Heathers but i can't get her site up now :-[

i'm going to be building my sub enclosure into one of the side panels soon - might even get the motivation to do it next weekend - will post pictures when i do it.

Humm...Never thought about that...I got two new Rockford 10" subs,4 channel Rockford amp and some 6.5" components that I bought for my truck...But think I going to stick them in the tracker.Just mounting the amp is where I'm having problems...I'll fit under the front seat..but I'm scared of it swimming....It's a big amp.... That's a 10" sub in the pic with it...It like 1600 watts...That's what the test paper print out that was in the box said...LOL I know it would kill two 10's and those 6.5's ;D
And if I mount it in back it just makes it easy to steal..

Here's a pic of mine mounted where the rear seat belt towers used to be. Near perfect fit and sounds much better. Please disregard all the dirt, its the only pic I could find!

Wow, the back end of your rig looks a lot like a pool table! ;D

I was talking about putting subs in the rear side panels like derekj...But the amp is so big..And the pool table is so when you get tired of wheeling just stop and shoot a game ;)..LOL

hey tom
the good thing about those subs is they work really well in a small enclosure so if you went the same route with the side panel it would probably work out ok. does your truck have a soft top or hard top? you might just want to get a smaller amp maybe about 400 wats, put the sixes up front and it will sound good. as far as mounting the amp i have seen them inlaid into the back door before - just a thought.

I have my 6x9's mounted in boxes laying on the floor just behind the front seats..Also have the 12 inch subs in an MTX box in the rear, no back seat and no more room in the back.. ;D

SiKiD,
I'd really like to see the 6" in your front door. How did you mount them?
-
there are a few ways you can mount the 6"s in the front doors.
here in aus, you can buy door pods which house a 6" speaker.

if you are going to flush mount the speakers, like i have, you have to put them where the door will allow, so you dont have to cut the door up. where they are now, they are actually next to the seat, so they aren't 100% effective, maybe 90%. good enough, i have a soft top.
if you want to mount them forward, like where your feet are, the door pods are a better option. my lil bro has these in his hatch back, i can get pics of that also if anyone would like.

I love those interior panels, Skid! Looks awesome!
I've been thinking about mounting a couple of speakers in the tailgate of my daily driver Tracker. Anybody got any pics of that?

NICE! thank you!

Anyone ever put subs in the rear door of a convertible?
Prior owner put some subs in the '96 but they are literally sitting on the floor behind the rear seat. This is the first Tracker I've owned that had an interior nice enough to keep and a rear seat and seatbelt system with mounts sound enough to keep. So now I have almost no space in the rear behind the seat because the sub boxes are sitting there. Meanwhile every time I hit a bump (damn stiff Calmini suspension) the things bounce and rattle.
This is one of the things on my "to fix" list.

Ive seen a few guys do it.
I know Tracker_Camps has.
Personally, I've been trying to figure out a way to turn the rear door into a "box"
So Ive been researching subwoofers with low mounting depth.
Been going ok.  8)
-
Intesting avatar you got there. ???
Anyways, I'm hoping to reuse the ones in the boxes I have now. The whole sound system needs work. This guy was dangerous because he was just mechanical enough to do things, but not well. :P He blew the front 4" speakers because he didn't use bass blockers, the interior rattles because the subs boom too much, the rear 6.5"speakers didn't have bass blockers either (I fixed and luckily they seem okay), the wiring from the positive battery terminal to the sub boxes in the rear is a goofy nightmare of too much wire and the wrong connectors, and oh yeah, the amp is just sitting on the tranny tunnel hump.
NEXT PROBLEM! :P

yeah... isnt it cool!  8)
nice horsey btw ;D
-
Erhm, this isn't the place or forum on this site to discuss that. Let's just say I disagree with it.
-
ok  8)

I don't have any pictures, but a friend of ours with our help put a box with two 8" woofers in his tailgate. Basically we just built a box, covered it, and then before we put the speakers in it we screwed it to the back tailgate wherever we could. Then we put the speakers in it and it's been fine since.

Heres a crappy pic of my 6x9's:

Ran off 500 watts, nowhere near enough bass for me so Im going to build a custom 3.5 cubic foot box tuned to 32 Hz in the space behind the seats  ;D ;D

Nice 15"... but I don't think a 15 can hit "hard" enough for me. Sure, it's "low".. but not "pounding". :) I like to be kicked in the butt. ;)
I've currently got two cheap fosgate 12"s in the back with an old punch 160. They're probably coming out this weekend being replaced by one NICE JBL 10" in a single box. Mainly - room for the speaker AND the trailbox behind the back seat is my goal.
My 12"s never kicked hard enough for Metallica - Floyd - AC/DC - Halen - Vaughn - etc.

I just made new side panels out of plywood and covered it with black vinal then mounted the 6x9 in them
also redid the rear panel and mounted the 10 inch sub same plywood and vinal
also are pics of the new rear bumper I fabed

the sub looks pretty good
do you have any pictures of how you mounted it?
how far does it stick out of the back?
-
No pics sorry but the trick is to cut a couple of rings of plywood and stack them then use foam insulation for basements and cut a ring that goes around the wood rings and shape it with corse sand paper glue and screw everything down and then cover in desired material
I chose the mounting place in the door because you have to remove some metal and that spot was the best for the least amount of cutting
the sub sticks out 1.5 inches front and rear of the door
if I can help out any more dont hesitate to ask

I put a few examples of boxes and how they were cut into the door.
So far yours is closest to what I was trying to do.
great job!
if you can take more pictures or find a diagram that would be great too! :)

those look cool but they stick out to much for my liking I want to maximize my space
I will try to take some pics and post later today

yeah, I feel the same
how does your setup sound
is it metallic sounding or does it have lots of rattle
let me know man
:D

right now i got my 6x9s in speaker boxs sitting in the fender wells, but after seeing how well all your guys stuff came out , iam going to make some
what iam planning to do this weekend, is make them side planels to put my 6x9s in for the rear
get 2 10 inch subs for the back, along with a 1200 watt sony or somthing amp
than this summer buy some chrome/metal front door panels and put some 6 inchers in there

They sound good not rattley or metal sounding just used a can of mono foam in the tight areas and stuffed the rest of the area with pink insulation
for one 10'' it pounds pretty good

lol, none of the systems Ive had have hit hard enough for me. Ive been through 8,12,15" subs of MTX, Kicker Comps, Kicker Solo-Barics, and now the Treo. I did like the 2 Comps sealed the most but, they just didnt move enough air (read: I dont like Kicker, think there subs are crap) Sometime this summer I plan to either make a new box for the Treo or go to a dual 12" Ascendant Audio Avalanche system. I love AA's subs but, they can be pricey (around 200 bucks for a 12" Avalanche right now)

good info there
do you know the mounting depth of that sub and was it a problem?
man, I wish you had pictures of the build
I would have loved to see them

If i remember the sub is 4' deep from flange to base of magnet
I used 3/4' plywood and cut rings 3/4' lager in diameter (2 rings) stacked them on top of each other on the main piece that i made for the back panel
the rest is just gluing down some foam and shaping it then covering it in vinal

I own you all!
And dont forget the 1600 watt amp, the 760 watt amp, and 1 farad cap, 120 watt dome tweets, and 125 watt 4" speakers in the dash. ÂÂ
KEEEEEEP IN MIND, Those Pioneer subs are long gone from the tailgate.  One is in my friends Vitara, one is in my Dads Tacoma.  I replaced them with 10" Infinity 1030W References, 1000 wt max each. The Pioneer truck boxes are loud as hell with fair bass, but more mid range, theyre 8".
Overall, a little more than 1000 watts continuous power.  And people wonder why I say "What?" so much.

hehe, forgot I had to yell
WHAT?

looks good and is very loud but at a cost of space I would not do it. but to each hes own I guess. Also I run a winch, and lights and soon a inverter for a welder. all that power for speakers puts a lot of extra demands on the alternator.
Did you up date the charging system to keep up with the demand?
Dustin
-
Nah, just added the 1 farad capacitor, but I got that when I had a 760 watt amp and a 444 watt amp and it did great. I need a bigger capacitor now, though, because when big bass hits the lights dim again. Capacitors fix everything to a certain degree. If you run one, you could add a nice system. Just dont go buy the best brand you can, its just a capacitor, I got my Stinger one cus I traded a CD player and $20 towards it at a store, and Stinger is competition stuff. But, Id at least say find a brand you have heard of
I soon plan to have those truck box speakers moved. I want custom boxes on each side of the rear bench seat that will also be arm rests. After that, Ill have to find a better spot for the amps other than under my seats cus people would step on them a lot, the one amp is a little longer than 2 feet.
