Title: Oil leak
Post by: kansascitytracker on March 29, 2005, 11:45:56 AM
Ok, my Tracker has oil spots underneath when she sits. I keep a very close eye on the dipstick and it stays full. Should I drop the pan and put new gasket on it, or not worry too much about it since the oil level stays up?

I wouldn't worry.  I got leaks too, not much, but my level is always ok.  I'm not worried.

Do you know where it's leaking from?  If it's the distributor O-ring you'd be wasting your time with the pan gasket. Have you thought of getting a can of engine clean and getting all the old gunk/dirt/trail crap off it?  If nothing else you'd have a nice shiny engine and it would make locating the leak a bunch easier.  My .5 claims I worry more about a clean engine than clean floors in the house (welllllllll.....lol) but I like the looks I get from folks when I show them a sparkling 140K mile engine that you can eat off of if you were so inclined.   ::)
