sounds like either you have a heavy current draw or your battery isn't a charge - check all the wiring in the plug on the back of the alternator and to the battery - there is a 60 amp fuse in the main fuse box under the hood and a smaller fuse (#8) under the dash. if you can keep it running for a minute put a voltmeter on the battery - should be 13-14 volts when running. to check for current draw when vehicle is off disconnect negative battery terminal and wire up a 12 volt bulb between the battery terminal and the negative cable - if the bulb lights up for more than 15 seconds check for a draw in the system somewhere - pulling fuses on at a time is a good way to isolate the circuit
good luck

just wondering if you found what was wrong with the truck?

yes i found the problem. it was three wires going into the fuse box under the hood. they were damaged. so i made new connections and so far so good.
