ok, I just got done with a complete rebuild on my stocker G13, it now is bored .020 over, has a isky torquer cam, and a weber DGV 32/36 carb. I had the carb installed prior to teardown and it ran fine.
I fired the engine today, rough idle-probably due to cam to some degree, and I am backfiring through the carb when I rev it off of idle. it seems to be running super rich as well since I spent about 5 minutes setting the rings by loading the engine and then compression braking, and the cat was glowing yellow hot. I'm afraid I may well have melted the ceramic media, which is no big deal as that is getting tossed when my header and 2" exhaust goes in.
does anyone else have this setup? what jetting are you using? what emlusion tubes? I'm also thinking I may possibly have a sunk float but cant check that till tomorrow. I'm at wits end here.

I would suspect cam timing, and
make sure the plug wires are on
in the right order 1,3,4,2 distributor
rotating clockwise
How was the power when you were
loading the engine and compression
braking ???
did it seem like all 4 cylinders were firing ???
I have seen a cat glow red before, it's burning
up all the unburned fuel, and one reason I was
thinking about 2 missing cylinders, and having
the 2 wires 180* out from where they should be

the odd thing is that it idled fine, and revs smoothly except for the backfiring through the intake. power was down for sure, and I'm certain that my plug wires are in the correct order. cam timing is set straight on to factory spec, do I need to advance or retard an isky?

Factory specs are crank key 12 O'clock
and the cam at 6 O'clock, don't ask me
why, it just is.
If you installed the cam mark at 12 O'clock
you have 2 cylinders 180* out and that is
why you are getting backfiring in the intake
