hi i have a quick question about lockers. where have you had your lockers installed? i got a deal on a lock rite for my 95 16 valve tracker. would a guy with little mechanical knowledge be able to install one with another dumb buddy? how much (about) does it cost to get it installed? tthanks by the way its for the rear

Yes, just take note of how many
turns the bearing adjustment is
so you can get it close to where
it was, then you need to check
the backlash to make sure it's
right, about .008 if I remember right

Yeah 0.008 thou is correct Wild.
BEFORE pulling the diff apart put a punch mark on the carrier bearing caps and make sure they go back where they came from - this applies to all the parts ( good practice to get into ).
When it is apart check: There is no end float in the pinion gear / bearings. If your pinion seal is leaking now is the time to fix it. Spin the pinion gear and make sure it feels smooth ;).
Follow the instructions in the locker manual, take your time and enjoy. It is pretty easy to install :)

might wanna read through these instructions ...

They are for a mini spool in a sami, but the instructions generally apply to the trac/kick and any locker that fits in the carrier.

i like working on my tracker, but that seems a little involved for a guy without a lot of experience. how long does it take to do this? has anyone had a shop do it?
-
Well, seeing as how I was dumping so much money into mine (I did 5.83's and ARB's at the same time), I put them together as best I could, then took them up to Spidertrax (they're about an hour drive from where I live, and they're GURU's of the Suzuki world), and swapped my stock 5.12 diffs for the labor to be sure they were set up correctly. I just had my rear 3rd member out (removing the remains of a twisted-off axle), and the R&P's are in fine shape, after a lot of hard use, including two trips to Moab.

I did the mini-spool in the rear of mine in a day ... that included, pulling the axels for the first time, pulling the third, marking, counting, disassembly, reassembly and reinstall. Woulda helped to have a buddy (holding the diff and torqueing properly is tough).
