88.5 Tin Top with an 89 Sidekick 1.6.
I went out and did some light wheeling, through water, some mud and sand. Well, I parked it for a week or so. When I got back into it, I drove out my driveway and could not shift into 2nd. I pushed in the clutch and pulled over. What I noticed is the vehicle was still moving with it in 1st gear and clutch in. I went back home, jumped in my other vehicle and went to work.
Now the question: What is causing this? I first thought it needed an adjustment, then I thought if it was to loose I couldn't get it in gear. The pedal feels somewhat the same as before. I took it out last night out behind my house and could finally shift it into 2nd, sometimes if "everything was lined up". But, when I stopped, it still would move with the clutch in. I don't think this makes a difference, but when the transfercase is in N, I can run through the transmisson's gears just fine.
Thanks in advance.

A common problem with tractors is that the rust will freeze the clutch mechanism. Just how it happens, I don't know. Since you were wheeling through water and then let it set for a while, I would suspect you might have the same problem. When that happens with a tractor, some recommend trying to push something immoveable, hoping that will break things free. Others say that is a way to break something. I am not familiar with your vehicle, but is there an cover you can remove to inspect the clutch?

I think he means that rust will stick the clutch
disk to the flywheel and/or pressure plate, if you
drive it for a while, whith the clutch pushed in
it will probably break free and all will be right

The trans could be full of water/mud like gear oil ;D
