Wow that is kinda tall! are you planning to extend the wheelbase? Im assuming so by seeing the rear wheelwells. Are you keeping the bodylift?

Yeah, gonna throw stock tires on, let all the air out, and hope that the drivetrain squishes it down enough to get it out ;D

Mr. Exploisvo,

Did you realize that:

Zukiworld bi-laws Chapter 14, Page 3, Paragraph 12 line 6 states:

Any Zukiworld member that fills it necessary to 'Hagenize' their Tracker, Sidekick and/or Vitara is required to submit an action photograph to Mr. Bewley (attn: Action-shots), of said vehicle, a minimum of 4' in the air, within 2 weeks of said vehicles modifications being completed.

Thank you for you assistance with this matter,

 ;D Zig  ;D

This buggy's gonna be so heavy I hope I can get it 4' in the air.

As far as two weeks... if anyone wants to swing by to help me get it done, feel free. Otherwise, a couple months is more realistic ;D

Yep. BPS Tractor Enamal from The Tractor Supply Co. Kubota Orange :)

Since everyone loves the pictures:

Got my rear suspension almost done... springs are just sitting on the axles since I haven't ordered any perches/ubolts for the rear yet. Has a bit of a rake, which I kinda like. Gives it a bit of an agressive look :P ;D

Mike
Coulda swore I already replied to your post, but it's not there now ???

Anyway, yeah, the front is pushed out 10" and the rear a little further for a total wheelbase of about 106-108"

As far as the body lift: if it's sitting too high when I get the new tires, it'll come out. I was planning on removing it from the start, but the bolts are all broken loose and just spin :(. Might have to keep it in with the new powertrain, too.

Made engine mounts today... engine's finally sitting in the Tracker without the hoist! woohoo!

The weight of the engine didn't compress the springs as much as I thought... must be pretty damn stiff springs as I took 2 leafs out and the weight of the engine only compressed the springs about 2-3". Might squat down some more once the weight of the trans/tcase is added.

Gonna be a tight squeeze to get a radiator in there, but with the electric fan I nabbed off a 6cyl FWD car, it should be alright.

My engine mounts... made them as beefy as I could. Will be adding a saddle below them to help with frame flex.

Grrr..

The reason why I removed the dash: trans shifter enters where the dash used to be.

With those 33's (measure 32"), it was 23-24 inches at the frame rail with no engine. A few inches less than that once the drivetrain's all in, and then a few more once I get new tires ;)

Got the tcase crossmember done today, so the drivetrain's in there on it's own now. All that's left is to make a few saddles/crossmembers to prevent frame twisting.

The new crossmember. Also shows how much of a pain the front driveshaft is gonna be:

Rear driveshaft isn't going to be nearly the pain in the butt as the front:

The weight of the entire drivetrain did squish my springs down pretty good:

Got clearance? ;D That's measured at the front spring hanger with the engine/trans/tcase in :o
(http://www.omghi2.us/april05/135.clearance.jpg)

Put the hood back on just to get an idea of how everything's looking.

I think the toe-in needs to be adjusted ;D:

I had the same problem with the front driveshaft when I did this into my toyota. Good thing is with the shackles in the front you won't need much driveshaft slip. Contact Jesse at high angle driveline he can make you a shaft with insane angles!  ;D

It's gonna have to be, from my estimates of it. Not what I wanted to do, but it's gonna need to happen because of clearance issues (unless I can find a skinny radiator that'll slide between the framerails instead of sitting on top of them).

Putting the shackles out front was done more for pinion adjustability and ease of installation more than driveshaft slip, since I'll probably go the with the square reciever hitch stock shaft. :P

If I can't make a minitruck CV and a high-angle Ujoint (those dealies with offset trunions) work for this application, High Angle is where I'll be calling :)

if i where building that rig, i would.  you arn't going to drive it on the street right?

hell i have been thinking about doing it to mine even though i'm putting mine back on the street next summer.

Whenever anyone asks me if I'm planning on driving it on the street, I tell them it depends on how well it tracks ;D

I don't have the slightest idea on how to set up a rear radiator... the last time I was talking to someone about it, they told me I'd burn up my water pump. ???

If you've got some basic advice to share if it's any more complicated than just running longer hoses and putting the radiator in the back with an e-fan, then please post up ;)
Title: Re: explosivo's Official SAS Thread
Post by: 1bigtracker on September 19, 2005, 06:19:22 PM
yea i thought about the extra strain on the water pump, and i don't have any extra advice, but your set up it completely different from mine.

look around the net, i bet some one else have used a 4.3 in there mud truck with a rear rad.  it dosen't even have to be a zuki, i could be a blazer, ect.

but i think i would use a rad from somthing like a honda civic or something.

Stu

Couldn't you just get a high-flow water pump for the 4.3?

BTW: check your pm's and let me know! ;) ;D
Title: Re: explosivo's Official SAS Thread

put two insister pumps in the line to the back that will keep the flow going ,

be nice to see that 4.3
Title: Re: explosivo's Official SAS Thread

I get to see that sucker every time I go to the garage. :P ;)

Hoping to get the wiring harness this week so I can start digging into that.

The only other problem with a rear-mounted radiator is that I'm out of room. I got a 25-30 gallon fuel tank out of a K1500 that takes up the entire rear cargo area... I could always mount it higher on the diagonals of the inevitable roll cage... might even get more air that way :P

On the electric pumps to put inline, got any idea on where I might start looking for those?

Digger: I thought about using a hi-flow pump, but I'm POOR ;D ;D
Title: Re: explosivo's Official SAS Thread
Post by: mbmarkyb on September 20, 2005, 05:38:05 AM
im not much use on where to get the inline pump as i know a place in the UK, not sure they export.   I will try dig out a link for them but if it was me i would probably have two, one going to the rad and one in the line coming out.

With your amount of lift is there no room under neath for the fuel tank or do you want it nice and high?   The only thing i think about with rear rads is when they have a boil over make sure it cant burn the driver passenger,
maybe an option in the back door with a set of fans but like you say the air flow could be an issue.

im sure when you look at it it will come together like it always does :-)

There is room for the fuel tank below the frame rails... but with the size of the tank, it would mean it would have to be installed from the bottom like the stocker, and I was after having something that could dropped through the rails and be lifted out. The tank's about 6" too wide to drop through. I dunno, maybe I'll work something out and have it under the frame.

Damn, that pump is expensive :o

If I go the rear-mounted method, I think I'll pick up a  few waterpump spares at the pick and pull to have in case it puts a lot of extra strain on the pump.
