Title: What kind of competitions are in other parts of the World?
Post by: zaggy on August 30, 2005, 08:11:58 AM
I'm real curious.......

What other kinds of stuff are guys doing with their Suzuki 4X4's. North America is dominated with the Trail/Rock Crawling/Mud Bogging stuff which is great. But what else is there?

Is anyone (or has has anyone seen).....

- Rallying
- Dersert Racing (ie Baja/Paris-Dakar)
- Hill Climbing
- Sedan Racing

It's a big world with a lot of Zuk's, what else is happening out there?

I always wanted to race a Class 5 buggy
(full body VW) but $$ always got in the way

A Baja/Paris-Dakar Zuki team would be cool,
I know Suzuki has a racing team, I wonder why
they don't race other than like the Pike's Peak
race stuff? If a dang Kia can run Paris-Dakar why
not a Suzuki

Around here there are some "obstacle course" races ... never been or competed, but from what I've heard it's sorta like a rally but much shorter and lower speeds. Obstacles like gully or log crossings and cause the speed to drop and then it's 25mph through a tight turn, hard brake, clear an obstacle, continue. I intend to run my trac in one some day (probably in 2wd tho) ...

Most of the UK competition scene is organised by the All Wheel Drive Club (AWDC)

Also Suzuki won the junior class of the 2004 world rally championship in the Ignis and picked up a couple of national championships too

and in India where the SJ is still King (Gypsy King  ;D)

I don't really know if this qualifies as a competition, but there are occasionally "Poker runs" around here where you follow the mapped route through the woods, picking up a playing card at each checkpoint. Best poker hand at the end of the run wins...

Bumping this thread:

In India, the rally scene still has the SJ (Gypsy) in action. Here is a link where you can see the SJ 413 in action

I've wondered this too. Kia's backed by Hyundai... but still...
