Title: Can anyone interpret VIN's?
Post by: Digger on September 01, 2005, 02:58:08 PM
I want to know what engine this rig had in it. If it had the 1.3L, then it's got 5.63's in the thirds and I will be harvesting them! LOL!

According to a website I found for decoding VINs, the 4th to 8th characters identify vehicle features, including the engine, transmission, etc.  I have been unable to find any way to decode those characters.  I found two Suzukis with identical characters in that block.  One (the one I bought) had a manual transmission.  The other, advertised as having a manual tranny, had an auto when I went to look at it.  After that experience, I am not sure Suzuki puts that info in the VIN.

Thanks for the info. I recently found a site with a little more info about it. It said that 89 model year zuks were divided as follows: Geo Trackers all had 1.6L 8 valves engines(therefore 5.12 in the manual and 4.62's in the auto) and Suzuki Sidekicks had the 1.3L carburated engines(therefore the elusive and hard to find factory 5.63's in the manual version). Oh well... Can't win them all! LOL!
