how bad is it to run my 88 sammy without any exhaust?
it kinda got ripped off up to the exhaust mani.

not really that good
doesent hurt it for a minuite or two but dont let the motor get too warm, it will suck cold air into the head and crack it normally.

in that case...how hard is it to make your own snorkel?
or is there a cheap snorkel kit out there?
I'm not worried about making a hole in the hood, the sammy is my hunting vehichle and only gets used around the farm, so I don't want to put alot of money in it.
TIA

if all you have is the exhaust manifold, you'll burn the paint off under the hood, possibly melt all sorts of wires and hoses. should be ok for couple minutes if you must

I would just weld on an exhaust pipe to create enough backpressure for the engine. I would not consider creating a snorkle for the exhaust. If you want to, I would run it out the side and up just behind the door. Most folks use a stock or stocklike exhaust with the end tip pointing down or a downward-angled section with great success driving down creekbeds with water up to the doorjambs.
The thing to watch out for in terms of water is the intake! Water throught the carb will destroy a running engine in no time!
Hope this helps!
