Title: 16 Valve Cam
Post by: HotRod on September 06, 2005, 08:09:53 PM
Okay, My Tracker (HotRod) is gone for a while having a heart transplant and clutch.
The shop mentioned a cam for the 16 valve they want to try.
Who has the hotter cam for the 16valves?
I've only heard about the 8valve cams.
(not that I remember everything)
BTW, I might have them throw on a header while their at it.

I can't remember who, but one of our
main advertisers/suppliers has them
about $125 I think, give it a go and
report back.

I checked and didn't see who it was.
But the Shop seems to know.
I'll report how well (I hope) they did on my Lil HotRod.
I'd try to do it myself but Homelife has gone bad and don't want
The Lil hotRod to get in harms way.
(not  that it could happen, But...)
they also said they could hold it for me a while. ;) ;D

Awsome Possum ;D
I'll check with the shop tomorrow.
I drive by them about everyday so I can check up on her ;D
(they're on my route)

Phase 1 torquer $100 w/$25 core
Phase 1 torquer - 16 valve $125 w/$50 core
Phase 1 torquer NEW billet $160 w/o core

Which one to go for?
Whats New Billet?
I guess I'll have to call Hawks to find out (on speed dial ;))
Phase 1 torquer - 16 valve $125 w/$50 core

"O" wait a second, I think there is only one cam for 16valves.

Hey HotRod

Get the specs on the cam and post them before you buy. I imagine you want more grunt down low so you will be looking for less duration than stock and more lift. But really figure out where you want your power before you buy and what other mods you are going to do.
I've been doing some research and while I'm not ready to recommend anything there sure is some neat stuff availabile for those that dig real hard.

Example......
I didn't know that there are now progressive grinds for 16v engines...in short, one set of lobes is ground for one power band and the other set for a different band, creates more torque and horsepower across the entire rev range.....neat stuff

Give it some serious thought and research before buying!!! Check specs against stock!

this place will do custom grinds for you, but you have to send yours in to get it done.

Billet is machined from a new piece of metal. Reprofiled is either a simple reprofile of the stock cam, not good as the lobes can end up very small giving higher wear (less surface area) and valve lash adjustment problems or built up with weld and ground to a new profile. Either way they need to be properly heat treated afterward and you may need new/refinished followers to prevent rapid early wear.

You want that header!  It DOES make a difference!  I even have a Calmini header on my 4-door 16-valve daily driver.

One day and it's out.
it's a shame to see I had an oil leak on the back of the motor.
But besides that, They say it was perty clean (just the way I like it).

I figure since I drive by them every day, I'll take pics of the progress as they go.
and just to keep an eye on her. ;) ;D
Never been this far away from her. :'( ;)
