Was doing some looking around and came across this. It mounts past the cat where they say it won't get as hot their fore not needing an intercooler. Which should make installing is type alot easyer. Just wanted to see what you guys thought as I didn't see anything about this type of turbo in all the other posts.

if you do a search i have already made a thread(or mabey it was inside a turbo thread) about remote mount turbos and no one seemed to care... :-\

I dont think they would work in our situations. Heated up turbine, dumped off into an ice cold river and/or mud hole :-\ I bet it would crack in no time.

plus get hung up on something or drive through some long grass and you could have a serious problem with fire! Personally I think its a dumb idea for all vehicles.!

Wouldn't that take a godawful long time to spool, too?

Its not just the exhaust gas that heats up the air. You generate a lot of heat by compressing it, thats why a number of supercharger conversions run intercoolers. Mounting it back there doesn't solve that problem it just adds a whole lot of other problems.

not to mention baking your feet and legs . my trany tunel and floorboard get realy hot anyway. gues i could put lunck on the froorboard to cook. maybe a roast and a couple of baked potatos ;)

I'd say that would be more difficult to do, longer charge pipes, oil lines, coolant lines, vacume lines. Not to mention speed bumps/rocks wouldn't be very nice to it. And(wild will clarify this)don't turbo's need a certain amount of heat to spin the turbo? I was always told, the closer the turbo is to the manifold, the better.

This is an attempt to put a turbo on a car
without a turbo manifold, it's a half assed
way to add a turbo.
Heat is volume in air, think of a jet engine,
all the thrust is hot gasses escaping (on low
bypass jets) Jumbo jet engines are high bypass
engines, only burning 1/20 of the air that goes
into the front, proper name is TurboFan.
There are a few problems with this turbo design,
one is getting the used oil, at about a quart/Min
back to the engine, and the huge plumbing length
is going to take a little longer to pressurize, if the
plumbing had fins all along it, it could work to cool
the charge air, and eliminate the intercooler.
Street design, budget minded, might work, probably
uses a ball bearing turbo, uses less oil flow and better
seals that resist blowing out from the blockage of pushing
oil back tot he engine. On the plus side, it would add
2 or more quarts oil capacity to your engine ;)
