Title: please Advice - problem with the transfer in sidekick
Post by: hitrick on September 17, 2005, 11:08:12 AM
Dear Friends . I need You advice here .

2day when driving in the sand I  sink   - and when trying to get out - I saw that even though the transfter is on 4X4 LOW\High only the rear wheels are moving ... (I have ARB Rear and Front and they were locked )

the light of 4X4 gone off and the transfer handle was moving only UP and DOWN (LOW-neutral  -  HIGH ) and I can't move it to 4X2 postion .

I checked the front drive-shaft - It didn't move - when I was on LOW (the rear wheel were moving in LOW and HIGH .

I sure the problem is in the transfer . everything is going to it .

It's now night so I can check it - but I guess maybe the base (I don't know the word for it in English) that the transfer and the gear sit on is torn .

PS : it's 97 sidekick with auto lockers - but the problem isn't with the lockers because the front drive shaft doesn't move/turn  at all .

sorry for my poor English - hope You still understand  the problem .

What other things have you done to your
SideKick? Body Lift, Suspension lift?

It sounds like you were trying to say the transfer
case mount/s were torn or broken, does the case
move about ?

If the mounts are broken and the case moves out
of normal position, the lever might be hitting the
hole in the floor and prevent selecting 2WD

For reference T-case positions are called 2WD (normal)
4WD (next position) neutral (next forward position) and
4WD Low (farthest forward position)

After re-reading your post, I think you might have a
broken shift fork in the T-case, preventing selection
of 4WD and 4WD Low.  This is going to require removal
and dissassembly of the T-case to replace the broken
part

What country are you in? or what is your native
language? We might be able to get some translation
going that would make solving your problem easier

I don't have body-lift , I'm able to select 4WD and 4WD low - the problem is that only the rear wheels are moving - the front drive shaft is like I'n in 4X2 (doesn't turn) .
I can't select 2WD and the 4WD light is off .
till yesterday everything worked fine .

I will check the mount .

sorry for the late update .

anyway I removed the transfer upper case and stick - took a big screwdriver - played with the fork inside - and it solved the problem .

thank You for a support I was little hysterical form the idea my transfer was broken from the inside .
in the end it took me 5 min to solve it :-)
