Are there any laws regarding driving on road without doors? Also how hard is it to remove and reinstall the doors on a Trackick?

Varies by location. Colorado has very loose laws - it's common to see topless, doorless rigs in the summer, all over the state. I believe a BIG phillips screwdriver will remove the doors on a Kick (except mine, where the previous owner WELDED the hinge).

He must of had his doors blown off too many times by a samurai ;D You could just fab up a quick bar going across, just so it looks like something is there, a friend of mine took a welding class at the local college and made a door that kinda looks like a v that hooks to the hinges and has a pin that drops throught the loop on the back, it's made of alum. so it is real lite and looks good 8)

Here in Florida having doors on or off is a variable dependent on your floor-sill.
Samurais and most Jeeps/Trucks have enough of a sill below the door such that if something falls on the floor, it will not be able to roll out of the vehicle. After talking to a local (florida again) police officer, he said the only concern about people running doorless is things rolling out of the vehicle at speeds and causing injury, accident, or otherwise. As said, the sills prevent this.

That's interesting info, I would never have thoght that to be the reason, but makes good sense. ;)

In Michigan I ran all last summer with my doors off. Never had a problem.

I also run with the doors off alot in the summer. Ive had no problems so far... Except rain! :P

as far as removing the doors, it's as simple as taking off the fenders and removing 4 bolts.

How simple is removing the fenders?

I just open my doors and pull the pins. Then I filed down the barbs that keep the pin from spining when you use the doors.
I keep them oiled so wear is not a problem.
So now when I want the doors off. I pull four pins and off I go.
When I'm done, I just put the pins back in. No lining up the doors. Had no problems so far.

Could you provide a close-up picture. I'm confused.....

Have you ever taken a door off in your house by pulling the pins out of the hinges?
Anyway, no I don't have any pictures at this time. But just open up your doors, and look at the hinges. Down through the center you will see a steel rod going from the top to the bottom of the hinge.
The top hinge, the pin is installed from the bottom. If you look you will see it's pointed at the top and a "E" clip holding it in place.
Remove the clip and drive the pin down and out.
Same for the bottom but you have to drive the pin up.

I know that doors and side mirrors are an option in NC. Don't even need them to get inspected  ;D

Cool. Thanks for the info. I was thinking you took out the bolts of either the door or the door jam, then used something for a pin. See I was confused. The pin assembly was in my face and I didn't even see it.
As for your idea, I know of a Sami which drilled out the top pin in his (rather than cutting the mount up). He then placed a snap pin in. His excuse, the door will stay with the vehicle in an accident. He replied, how would you find out if the accident was enough to knock a door off?

What is this Inspection you speak of???

I'm amazed at how many states don't have vehicle inspection. In new hampshire they check the brakes and tires and steering and so on.....makes me feel more comfortable knowing that cars that are inspected aren't piles that are going to ram into me.
-
The only time you have to get a Vehicle inspection in BC is if a cop pulls you over and hands you a VI ticket.
He can pull you over for a few reasons.
- The cop is just being a prick
- Your car looks like it should be in a scrap yard.
- Your driving a 4x4. >:(
- Your driving a low rider
- Your driving a Ricer
- Your car is spewing out black smoke....
If you get handed a VI ticket you have 30 days to get the inspection done, or your vehicle isn’t allowed on the road anymore until it is fulfilled.

bullcrap!
You run w/o doors so you can bail out if the landing looks too rough! ;D

I disagree.
We had inspection laws in Indiana that we such a joke, it was little more than a large waste of money and time.
An old coot used to sell stickers and not even look at the vehicle they were going on.
I've always been of the persuasion that the driver should take care of their own rigs rather than let the "state" do it for them.
What is even more stupid here in PA is that totally brand new vehicles have to be "inspected" before you can drive them off the lot. I know, I bought three since I lived here.
That is borderline asinine.

The only problems with taking the doors off in Tx is that when you take the doors off, the mirrors are on the doors and the mirrors come off as well. Tx law says that you have to have a mirror on the drivers side , and one on the passenger side, if the vehicle came with one on the passenger side.
I always take my doors off my samurai, passed by a few cops, havent gotten stopped yet.
-
bye bye doors. i have been thinking about it for a while but now their leaveing.

can you get the soft doors for a kick like the sami's?
that would be cool if you could! anybody seen anything like that? ???
-
Michigan has a side mirror law too. Haven't had a problem yet.
It's the same with a lot of Jeep. You take the doors off and you have no mirrors.
-
what about the thing in the middle of the 2 hinges..it bolts on?? what is that for??
-
ive seen cars runnign doorless were i live lol

I removed my driver side door last night. I did it by unbolting the hinge from the door, not the body. It was really easy to get them off, took about 5 minutes. Getting them back on was another story. I wanted to take out the pins like I have read others here doing. The top pin was no problem. The bottom one was stuck good. I unbolted the hinge from the body and put it in a vise and banged on the pin, but it wouldn't budge. When the hinge turns the pin turns so it it stuck good. Since the top pin came out easily I tried to put the door back on by lining up the hinge and inserting the pin. I couldn't get it lined up properly and ended up putting the top part back on the body and bolting the door back on. That was a minor pain. Took about a half hour to get all four bolts in. Since my infant son rides in the front passenger seat I don't think I'll take that door off. It wouldn't look right with just one door so I don't think I'll go doorless much this year.

Yeah, those kick doors are heavy. I've helped RealRedWagon get his back on a number of times. It's easier with two people. Oh and by the way, kicks look sweet with no doors. I've run the Sammi doorless and he's run the kick doorless for a while here in NY and haven't been bothered by "the Man." then again, my mirrors are mounted off the doors, so I got 'em when the doors are off, and real red doesn't have any mirrors left anyhow :o

In WA you have to have at least one rear faceing mirror, if the windshield is missing you have to drive with goggles, you have to have Lights, however hodd and body pannels are optional, you must have a bumper, that extends within 1 in from the edge of your tires, and seatbelts, if the vehicle was equiped with them from the factory.
LOL

I see people drive around on a frame, wearing goggles some times, just a cupla seets bolted to it, licensed- with turnsignals and lights

Over here thats how they deliver bus chassis they just drive them out of the factory and down the motorway to the coach builders to have the body put on.
On my doors the pins weren't removable. I had to grind one end off and then knock the pins out. If I did it again I would drill them out as the hinges bend very easily. I then replaced the pins with the type that have the clip.
