HI has anyone had a serious misfire on a 1600cc 16v? Mine has developed a serious misfire and total loss of power. Had it with Suzuki dealership after a battle in the workshop and they have no idea either!!! Difficult to start but when it does start it can be revved to a high level if you feather the throttle very carefully. Replaced the timing belt and tensioner, plugs leads, rotor arm and cap. compression is great, all vacuum lines good, fuel delivery great. Can anyone help, after weeks of tests am on the verge of dumping the engine. Thanks

Bad lead/plug wire? I have occasionally seen a bad one fresh from the box...

Sounds like a bad MAF, or a leak in the
intake between the MAF and the throttle body

You had it at a suzuki deadership and they couldnt figure it out! WEAK! :o
is it a repetitive misfire, like possibly the same cylinder each time?

Check the end of the wores where they go into the motor, I have had a few of these go bad with the exact symptoms. All it was, a badwire arcing to the v-cover. Buy the best plugs you can get and you should not have any more trouble (if that is what is causing it)

Thanks for the heads up but at the risk of sounding stupid what is the MAF? This is driving me nuts at the moment cant drive or even get the `zuki out of the workshop! I am a very competent mechanic but when Suzuki and two independent garages are beat its a big mystery. Thanks again for the reply

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply to my misfire problem. Seems to be repetitive but have replaced all electrical and ignition parts with Suzuki original bits. Turned out the lights in the workshop at night to see if there was arcing but no luck. This thing is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!

"Wild" is probly right....
But I would go back to basics to make sure.
- Plugs/Wires/Rotor/Cap confirm good.
- Firing order is correct?
- Timing belt is not out? For sure?
- Compression you said is good, but is it even?
- The next step would be a vacuum guage test...it will tell alot. My guess is it wll be low.
- Then start checking for vacuum leaks...I'm betting Wild is right, but check to be sure
If the compression is good and the cam timing is correct it has to be one of the accessory systems.
- Intake manifolds
- Fuel injection
- Injectors
- Ignition
Just went though a hellish bear like this myself so trust me patience is a virtue...
Go through systems one at a time and confirm everything before going to the next system.
Don't assume anything, check reguardless of who replaced it.
You will find it.
