Title: Rust, rust, and more rust!! How to do it yourself, and like it!! (Part 1)
Post by: ghd23 on September 21, 2005, 12:55:43 PM
Ok guys, as promised, here's a tool list, and several pictures of the project in its earliest stages. As I know, everyone will not have all of these tools, so please just use this as reference. There are several different ways of removing the old rusted panels. (i.e. Die Grinder, air Chisel, Motabo, Sawzall, Hammer&chisel, and soforth).  If you have air tools - BIG plus. If not, electric always works.

-  And here we go!  Hopefully you have these, if not, ALL of there are NOT needed, although it cuts hassle in half. These are just variations of what can be used!

1) Air compressor
2) Welding machine(s)
3) Drill press
4) Chop saw
5) Cut off Wheel
6) Die Grinder
7) Drill
8) Air Chisel
9) Grinder
10)  Air crimper/Hole punch
11) The little guys (good ole hammer and chisel, measuring tape, wire brush, square, level, angle finder, contour finder, magnets, various size clamps)
12) a COLD case of 40oz's  ;D     And DO NOT forget safty equipment!

Here's more pics of the tool list!

Watch out for that last tool on the list. CAUTION!!!  Misuse may cause irritability, poor judegment, bad welds, and the occasional dizzy spell. In case of over ingestion, seek a place a pass out.  :D

Ok, now here are some pictures to show you all exactly what I'm up against.
Because I've been doing this for so many years, this isn't too challenging for myself. But for others perhaps not as expirienced, this may seem pretty tricky. Just have patience, and confidence, and just take it a step at a time. You got this! Don't you worry...

Now that we took a walk in the park, I'll just upload a few more pics, and the next time I return, I will have a material list ready, along with some pictures of the progress.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Thanks Ahead,

Looks identical to my rust, except putting a 30gal fuel tank in the place of the (removed) floor was my solution to that problem :P

Holy !!!!  man, that's not rust, that's
cancer, with a side of corrosion  :o

I don't have one bit of rust, too dry out here,
I guess if I keep the body in reasonable good
condition, I might have a body worth swapping
to another good frame some day

I feel sorry for you guys back East and where they
salt the roads, man that has to suck, buying a new
or another car every 10 years just because they
evaporate into oxide   :(
