Im geting ready to do a 1.6 16v into my sami. I hae an adapter plate kit from trai tough with mounts. Irealy need some good advice from somone who has swapped one out. I have several questions.....
1.How hard is it to do the wireing for the EFI?
2.Do you cut splice the wires from the 1.6 into the samis wireing or is it worth $400. to buy a harness from trail tough?
3.Is it worth the trouble to keep the EFI or is a carberator changeout the way to go?
Wich is cheaper and or runs better?
4.Is there a wire harness out there cheaper than $400. and where can I get one?
5.Do I have to change out the speedometer?
Well most of my question are concerning the electrical chane from the 1.3 to the 1.6. Man am I lost in this....I need good advice..No Bull Shite please...

Get the TT harness, worth the agrivation
factor, especialy since this seems like a
big project for you. You will also need the
16V computer and all sensors to run right.
As far as I know, there is no carb for a 16V
engine, unless there is a custom manifold
made (doubtful) or the 16V was available
in a country other than the US with a carb.
You don't want a carb offroad anyway, flooding
and stalling and stuff, EFI is the way to go
Welcome to the board
Good Luck

Is it easier with an 8v?
-
Ya, a 1.3L intake with a carb will fit the 8V engine
-
Or
You can get adventerous and build a dual stromberg carburator manifold like I did!
But with the 16v EFI conversion does make more sense.
On the 8v the 1.3 manifold will fit but the ports are much smaller, I think modifying the TBI intake to accept a carb would be better.

Oh yeah........Welcome to the board

I'd go for injection. The 1.6 8V TBI and carb manifolds are quite different in shape, I don't think the twin choke carb would work very well on the TBI manifold (I was looking at this yesterday). I don't believe the 16V was ever offered with a carb, certainly not in the UK where we had both a carb Vitara/Track/Kick and a carb Swift 1.6GTI up to about 1994

i did the 1.6 swap in june '05. 1.3 manifold and TBI are the way to go. it's real easy.

Was it the16 valve....Whats a tbi? I know it sound retarded but dont laugh to loud.

Do you have any examples of what Ill need to do to modify the intake to accept a carb? An what carb do you recmend for this purpose? I have access to bot eidlwbrock and hollie 4 barrels. So wht do you think?

Trail tough is running a special where you get everything plus your wiring harness done. I think it was all for $360. TBI= throttle body injection. 16 valve engines are multiport, each cylnder has its own injector.
-
Go the 16v I did and can get 90mph (150kph) on a straight with 31" tires
You do not have problems on hills being EFI
Also a lot more reliable
-
That's funny,
I get 93 MPH in the 1/4 mile
with 30" tires and a turbo :o

Hi there
\
I was reffering to the 8v engines when I was talking manifolds...
I think for your 16v yoou really should go with the factrory EFI...just makes sense.
The only other option in my opinion would be to scratch build a twin carb intake, but having done it , it would be more work that converting the wiring.
As far as buying the kit or doing the wiring yourself....depends how much you like doing wiring and how good at it you are.  I hate wiring and I'm not great at it so I would buy the kit!
But thats just me.

Dose this include the adapter plate for the engine swap too?
-
Yall are realy being helpful...I will go with the TBI....I have to find the computer for the motor..this one dose not have one....I realy appreciate the advice...
-
If yours is a 16v it has Multi port EFI...the TBI (throttle body injection) does not fit.
the best bet is to use all of the factory components that you can and by the harness if you are like me and hate wiring......
Some times the threads can get a little confusing till you get used to them
- TBI+Throttle Body Injection, came on some Samurai 1.3 engines and Track/Kick 1.6/8 valves
- Multi port EFI came on Track/Kick 1.6/16valve engines and does not swithc with the TBI system
For your easiet swap you will need....
-Transmission adapter
-Complete 1.6/16valve engiine with harness ECU and all the goodies
-Etheir modify the stock 1.6/16valve harness or buy one already modified
Trying to adapt the Throttle body type injection to your 16 valve engine would be a waste of time and cost you horse power.
I love the KISS system and keeping it all close to factory for this swap fits that bill.

KISS = "keep it simple stupid" approach ;D I live by that code. I would go to a pull it yard for the ECU, and if you are inclined and have a volt meter you could pull a harness to, be alot less then $$400... but I am cheep. oh and from me welcome aboard ;D
-
How much does it cost to get your harness modified?
