I have a 1989 1.6 8V in my tin top. I want to know what spark plugs/wires, disto cap work well with this engine. And any other general tune-up things I can do to this engine. Thanks.

General cap and rotor and NGK Plat plugs if you have the cash go NGK from rotor to plug "cap wires and all'

but palt plugs and the high res wires for plat plugs are not the way to go
put in factory plugs and wires what suzuki recommends
plat plugs have a higher internal resistance and is made for high output ignition
like in newer cars with coils for two plugs or one coil per plug
but the suzuki ignition is not high output so you want to have as little resistance as possible
replace the cap and rotor and buy good factory replacement wires and plugs
I was told this by many mechanics first by my dad who is a gm mechanic for 35 years and by
my buddy who works as a suzuki mechanic I had made the same misstake buying the expensive stuff and a couple of years later replaced it with the factory stuff and it did make a differance
So its just what I have learned if you have stock ignition go with stock replacement parts

I agree with Legionaire on the platinum plugs, I've never seen any benefit in anything I've tried them in.
But we disagree on plug wires.........
My top choice is NGK, good quality, xlnt performance, tolerable price, good life. When they are not availabile I go to the best 8mm wire I can find for a price I can live with. Last time I used Super Mag 8mm...they are an odd ball but were good quality, only used them cause everyone was out of NGK
I also go NGK on the plugs, but just the regular ones not the platimum.

I agree with you about the good wire but not high resistance wires used to clean up the spark so to speak
plat plugs are a waste of money

You can diss NGK
I did every time I put them in a European car! But for some reason they sure work well in Asian vehicles.
As far as wires, I prefer NGK but ould think any quality name brand wire will do the job.

I'd go for stock wires, my engine runs under water so they must be good.
