Title: Stock sammy gears and 31"s
Post by: Dihnekis on September 27, 2005, 04:42:16 PM
I'm looking at buying a samurai with a SPOA and 31" tires already on it. It has the stock gears however, and I'm going to have to drive it down from NC (to florida) if I get it. Will it suck on stock gears, and whats the fastest it would get up to probably?

Eventually I'm planning on dropping my 1.6L in it though.

It would bring the SERIOUS suckage!

3-4th gear, at best

Top speed? If you can keep 65, you're doin good! But your speed will be WAY off, so bring a GPS.

bring a set of 235's or smaller when you get it or better yet pick it up on a trailer.
or have it shipped.

I've been running 31x10.50's  w/stock gearing for two years with no problems.
I can get up to 70mph on a windless day..lol..but usually 60-65 on the freeway.I do have to drop down into 4th ocassionaly on inclines.
I don't have a mis-calibration at all,This part of california we have tons of Speed radar trailers and my speedo is never off.

You can run this setup and still make decent speed. But accelerating to pass people and do quick manuevers will be a thing of the past. Ran this way for a while and it works, but if you up the tire size and up to harder trails you willl run into problems.

bring a t-case w/ 4.89:1 gears already in it along bolted up to a HD t-case mount(trust me, you want to have the mount) to pick it up.   8 drive shaft flange bolts + 3 t-case mounts and your done and using 5th gear all the way home

Assuming you have started on the 4wd conversion of the kick, why not take the wheels of it and switch them onto the sammy, should be around stock for the sammy so back is your 5th  ;) not the top speed of a stock one of course but on the way I'd think  ;D Good luck on picking it up!

I do have the stock tires from my tracker, but they are bald and probably the main cause of the tracker killing accident.

you had n accident? didn't know that, everything okay except for the tracker....?
Okay read the post  ;). That sucks. Had that to mine, but that wasn't my fault, so in came insurance, total loss (financially) so I got 'bout 1200 euro's for it fixed it myself and of the rest bought a lift kit and a winch bumper (2nd hand). But that won't go up for you, I'm sorry.
Hey maybe you pass someon off here you can lend some good stock tyres from or something.....

Well since my ride backed out, my only distant option is to convince my dad to go with his 2005 xterra 4x4. if that happens I will just rent a dolly from uhaul and bring it back on that, for $90. It would cost me about that much to get back in gas anyway.
