Any of ya'll have pictures or writups on installing dual batteries and a higher output alternator. I plan of installing a winch soon and want to make sure that I am going to have enough power to operate it.

This has come up before and it was determined that most of us just run one big battery instead of 2. I personally use an Optima Yellow top with the largest reserve capacity and a stock alternator with my winch. I just make sure to be running the engine with some rpm while winching to make sure it's getting fed... Seems to work fine...

I use an Optima yellow top too. But, although the others in LMS scoff at the idea, I have been contemplating a second battery as well. Maybe for different reasons. Now that I have the 16V I am fuel injected and cannot rely on a roll start to get me home, I need power for the injection system and fuel pump. I'm considering setting up a second battery that would run my computer and fuel pump via isolator in case of an emergency(such as a dead batt. or alt. in the middle of Zuwharre or Paragon). Does anyone else have such a set up? What is the general opinion on such an Idea?

having a reserve battery is pretty common although finding a spot to put one in a tracker/kick is prety hard! :-/

why don't u get a couple of sealed service free batteries and put them in the back of the tracker. it will also help with the weight distrobution and make the vehicle more balanced. i did this with one of my friend rock buggies and works fine.

Use the term Sealed Service Free Battery with caution.
I've had a good sealed service free battery. It wasn't exactly Service Free as it still needed recharging every now & again, and it got banged up very lightly in a car accident and it didn't STAY sealed... In fact it was just a small hole poked in the side about the size of a sewing needle hole and it leaked all over a whole camping backpack/rucksack setup, the acid ate through 75% of my sleeping bag, compression sack, the rucksack has holes eaten through it, and pretty much the ONLY thing it didn't eat through were my 30 round AR-15 magazines. The battery was secured down, and I thought it was tight enough, but apparently not.

sorry to hear about ur bad luck but let uys know what kinda battery it was so we can stay away from that brand. i refering to and optima or one of the other premium batteries out there they have a name for them selves and tend to be more durable.

Oh, I was just gonna put a battery box in the back of my sammi's tub, probably up on the wheel well for easy cable access. I don't have a kick, no one rides back there so I'm alright.

Your thinking of a Jell Cell Battery (optima batteries are that). You can put them in any position and they will work. Also their better for the beating we put on our rigs. They will last longer.

Since I do a lot of camping, I probably wouldn't want to put it the back. Although it would be easy to build a case around it to protect the camping gear, people, ect, I need the space. I think what I'll do is install a yellow-top optima and keep it at that. It seems from the responces on here that one optima should be enough to run a winch. This leads me to the alternator, I know that there are high output alternators for sams', but I wonder if they make them for a track? I'll check into this. Thanks for the responces all ;D

If you're mainly worried about starting it why not carry one of those portable power packs. The sort that are designed to boost start a vehicle and recharge from the cigarette lighter output. Once its going it should run OK off the alternator.

how come you cant roll start?
i'd think there'd be enough fuel in the lines to fire for a few seconds til the pump could fire up..
plus even the dry cranking if its not running should give enough voltage to get an injector or two to spit out some fuel
either way, reserve is always a good idea ;D

In Freezing Cold Minnesnowta winters those power packs are often not enough to get vehicles started... The cold sub-zero temps have affect the batteries power... Especially if the car battery is almost TOTALLY dead. In that case the only thing that will start it is a jump from another car, or a heavy-duty charger with high amps...

how come you cant roll start?
I can roll start, but if my alt or batt goes bad, I can't continue driving. The injection system needs the proper voltage to keep running. Yeah, if my starter or battery goes bad, I can roll start to get going and then run off the battery or alternator. But, if the alternator quits on the trail, or the battery is bad and the alternator doesn't provide the right voltage, I can't continue to drive.

You can use an alt off of a GM 4.3l.  Real_Red did it for a while, but they drown easy.

Where do you want to install your 2nd battery ?
I've ran twin stock sized battery's under the hood by building a mirror image of the R/H tray on the left. Then once I installed the Warn M6000 I ditched the 2nd one under the hood and opted for a 925cca in the rear.
