I dont want to cut the grill or the bumper over, but I have a new 4000# winch I want to install. Anyone else ever done this, or have suggestions, as I'm getting nowhere fast

Unless you have one of the bumper covers from a 4 door kick with the huge rectangular hole in it, you're going to have to cut a hole somewhere for the fairlead at least. I would look into fabbing a 2" receiver hitch that comes out just under the stock metal bumper through a small hole in the cover. Then you could mount the winch to a plate that slides into the hitch when you need it, and stores behind the back seat when you don't. If you run an extra set of wires to the back and make a rear hitch, you could pull from the back if you need to...
Also, make sure to tie into the frame, not just the stock bumper as it's only held on by 4 10mm bolts. If you pull on the bumper by itself, it will rip right off the front of the truck pretty easily...

I have seen this happen.
The owner didn't care so we all got a good laugh out of it luckily.

Stop exaggerating Digger they are actually only 8mm !!! :o
;D

Well the bolt heads are 10mm ;D

mine are 3/8 bolts, put them in myself, non the less, I dont want to mount it to the bumper. I'm thinking of a tri-pod (quad-pod) style setup,, from the front suspension to the middle just above the bumper, then from just in back of the bumper build a little something that would clear the bumper and then mount a plate on. where b is the bumper, I is behind the bumper and in front of the rad and 0 is the round bar holding the front control arm assy. / or \ is in front of the bumper. thereis enough room on the passenger side to reinforce it towards the frame about another foot back towards the frame

chile kick has his mounted to a plate that mounts to the frame behind the bumper

No your wrong....
6mm bolt has 10mm head.
8mm bolt has a 12mm head (which is the bumper ones)
10mm has a 14mm head.
12mm has a 17mm head.

Here's what I did when making my winch bumper you could do the same and use it to make just a winch frame from it.

I cut the 10mm (3/8") plate to shape with a 4" grinder then taped some 10mm holes in it and welded it in. My bumper ties to both the factory bolts and these one's two as well.
